Take that, Strom Thurmond!
Senator Cory Booker has broken the record set by Strom Thurmond, who filibustered in favor of segregation for 24 hours and 18 minutes.
Senator Chris Murphy stayed with him the entire time, as a way of supporting Senator Booker for standing with him during his own previous overnight takeover of the Senate floor in support of common sense gun legislation.
Around 30 Democratic Senators stayed with him for at least part of the speech, asking him questions.
He did it because his constituents asked him to do more to meet this extraordinary moment.
I watched several hours and it was good and substantive.
May we all be inspired to do more!
EDIT: You can contact Senator Booker to thank him here. Here is a list of other Senators who participated if you would like to thank them as well.
