You probably know about Jasmine saying that she didn't like Elon Musk or what he was doing. Pam Bondi responded that she should be careful about what she was saying.
Jasmine decided to respond to Bondi's threat (YouTube 6 minutes) during a hearing of the House Judiciary Committee on "Biden's FBI."
She started with the newsflash that Joe Biden is no longer President and how the job of the people in the room with her was not to litigate, but to legislate.
She then quotes Cory Booker from his speech that "This is not about left or right, it's about right and wrong." Called him an American hero.
Jim Jordan is the Chairman, Jasmine is the ranking member of the committee and she says there isn't much they agree upon, but they both know there has been an increase in death threats to them than nobody should have to deal with in this country.
"To have the sitting Attorney General, and I'm going to call it Faux News, but I know some of y'all love it, it's fake to me. To have her go on Fox News and then decided she wanted to send a threat to me, it was wrong. Because here it is, she is the highest law enforcement agent in this country and people are watching and they are consuming this information, and they are believing that simply because I decided that I wanted to exercise my right to free speech --- which I am not abridged from doing --- that she then wanted to politicize something that should not be politicized. I don't like Elon Musk. I'm going to say that 50,000 times."
"... I don't like him going out there firing people... I think he's a crook...the rest of us can't sit around and get law enforcement ordained as federal law enforcement to protect him...the rest of us can't get our dealerships protected by the Federal government... that is somebody who is operating above the law... I am happy to say that on my birthday there were people around the world protesting against him...If she had watched the whole thing, she would know that I specifically told protesters to make sure you consult with lawyers...the fact that there are other sitting members that have received letters of threat from this new DOJ tells me that they are about retribution...the reason, our country is torn apart is because we can't even agree on right versus wrong..."
She followed with how if she called law enforcement, she should be able to ask them to investigate a crime and not look at her as being unworthy because she is Black or a woman. Jasmine explained how she became a public defender and had one step above others because she understood the lives of her clients.
"...because we have an Administration that is continuously railing against diversity, equity and inclusion...or we don't need people who show up who think that diversity should not be valued....That's why we may need to have somebody who shows up look like me."
Jasmine Crockett is great to watch when she gets mad. She just gets better and better as she goes along.
Members of the House have a time limit of how long they can speak on the House floor. The leaders of the parties have a Magic Minute, where they can speak as long as they want. Nancy Pelosi spoke for 8 hours in 2018, and Kevin McCarthy in 2021 against the Build Back Better Act.
Hakeem Jeffries could do it if he wanted to.
Jasmine will have to settle for short bursts in committees. The limits on the House floor are 5, 20 or 30 minutes, depending on the circumstances.
Here's that link to the 6 Minute clip of Jasmine again.
