The United States Postal Service doesn't have a Postmaster General at the moment. Louis DeJoy resigned on March 24th. The next one has to be chosen the the Board of Governors. Trump gets to put people on the Board. Last night he appointed Anthony Lomangino. He still has to be confirmed the Senate.
Known in Florida as the "trash kingpin" for his waste management companies, Lomangino just so happened to donate $8.9 million to the Right for America super pac last year which supported Donald Trump's reelection. Trump already put his wife on the Kennedy Center Board.
Lomangino's reputation is less than spotless. In 2021 he lost a case against him by a rival recycling business. A judge allowed Ron Bergeron, owner of Sun Bergeron, to file for punitive damages against Lomangino's Waste Management and LGL Recycling for trying to put Bergeron out of business.
In 2018 Lomangino donated $150,000 to a legal fund for Trump aides being prosecuted for actions unveiled by the Robert Mueller probe into connections with Russia and Trump's 2016 campaign, which Lomangino also donated to. He's been supporting Trump for a decade and a Palm Beach neighbor. No wonder Trump named him. Still another Trump transaction. Still another bribe taken.
"... a fantastic businessman and a reformer..."
Sure. If you count reform school. That one's just a snark.
"... most successful sanitation businesses in the Country."
By illegally stifling competition.
"... knows how to fix a problem..."
And the fix is definitely in.
The US Postal Service does have problems, new ones created by DeJoy. Slowing down first class mail. Slowing down the bulk of mail outside of large cities by closing down smaller sorting facilities. Cutting back on the move to go electric with new delivery trucks. Not making enough on last mile deliveries for UPS, FedEx and Amazon.
There is always Republican talk about privatizing the United States Postal Service. Being mandated by the United States Constitution, I'm not sure whether that's actually possible. It's a bad idea, anyway. USPS doesn't have to be a money-making venture. If it was required to, you can bet that rural deliveries would disappear. People would have to drive a hundred miles or more in order to get their mail, and to send any. I'm sure a lot of MAGA would be upset. But, they would be too stupid to know it was happening until it did.
As a member of the USPS Board of Governor's, Lomangino will get to pick the new Postmaster General. Hopefully that vote won't go to waste.
