The last new moral panic from Republicans was trans kids in bathrooms and sports. It used to be that Rs came up with bogus moral panics constantly, but somehow they have stopped. It could, of course, be the growing panics about themselves. How about
- Let’s call it “Planegate”?
- Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill going down in flames, as both Houses of Congress are increasingly divided against themselves?
- Their disastrous polls?
- Their increasing underperformance in elections at various levels?
- Rs increasingly in favor of renewable energy?
- The new Pope telling them about themselves?
Whatever it is, I am enjoying both the relative quiet from them and our successes in court, in the streets, in various political arenas, indeed around the world. What do you think?
Here is the latest attempt, which erupted briefly in March, but has not actually taken hold.
The New Republic: A Very Trumpian Moral Panic Has Struck the Art World
Spurred by Christian activists and far-right Republicans, police in Texas have seized five Sally Mann photographs from a major museum. What happens next could have major implications for provocative art and First Amendment protections.
Photo: Photographer Sally Mann relaxes with her dog Honey in a meadow of tall grass on her farm near Lexington, Virginia.
Mann has spurred controversy for years over her photographs of her rural Lexington, Virginia, home, which include nude images of her underage children shot during the 1990s.
To which I reply, Huh? Aren’t you lot a bit late?

The author of the quoted post doesn’t understand how copy and past works.
"Women are PIs on 58% of the canceled grants, although they are PIs on only 34% of all active NSF grants.Similarly, Blacks are PIs on 17% of the terminated grants, although they make only 4% of the total pool. Hispanic PIs and those with disabilities were twice as likely to lose a grant."

If it's the 14th of the month, it's time for the #ESAJuice bar!
The animation below shows Juice's altitude transition from 500 km to 200 km above Ganymede, an update announced earlier this year.
The new phase of 30 days at 200 km will enable a more detailed investigation of Jupiter's moon.

This creature was found 1600 feet deep in the ocean. It's an Anglerfish – distinguished by the rod protruding from its head that it uses to attract prey. With flexible bones, and a stomach that can be expanded, it can swallow fish that are twice its size. The pectoral and pelvic fins can perform as feet, allowing this fish to walk along the bottom of the sea. This strange looking creature is an example of the bizarre life forms living deep below the surface.

A new technique could eliminate #quantum backaction noise in optical traps, allowing a particle to remain suspended in space undisturbed.
There’s just one catch. For the technique to work, the particle needs to become invisible. 🧪⚛️
