Although the US is barely above 10% electric car ownership, the world has passed 20%. The IEA predicts that it will pass 25% this year, and keep right on going to 100%, or Net Zero Emissions, by 2050. Apart from the diehard Coal Rollers, of course, but they won’t have any gas stations to fill up at.
Edmunds: What Is the Percentage of Electric Cars in the U.S.?
Texas is close to, and sometimes ahead of California in solar, wind, and storage, but halfway back in the pack on EVs. Republicans are widely open to the lure of $$Real Money$$TM and security in energy supplies, but not to being seen driving a Volvo XC-90 and sipping a latte in public.
Three US states and DC are at world levels in EV ownership, but the rest lag anywhere from well behind, as in Oregan, to dismally behind, as in the entire swath from Florida to West Virginia.

Figures for public car chargers are quite similar, as you can see on Plugshare. The Doofus-in-Chief has ordered fully-functional chargers in Federal buildings ripped out, claiming that that saves money. Never mind. We know about Him/It/MineMineMine, to give him his due pronouns. (I recommend WeThePeople/US.)
Electric Vehicle Database lists 470 current #ElectricCar #EV models available in the US right now with ranges from 690 km down to 135 km. Many have purchase prices comparable to ICE cars, & much lower costs of ownership. It's the beginning of the end for petroleum.
And there is .plenty more where those came from. I am looking forward to when we are rid of the current maladministration, and Chinese cars come flooding in to feast on Detroit’s lunch. They will do just as Japan and Korea have done, because Detroit has steadfastly refused to learn from Adam Smith and others about real competition necessarily reducing profit margins to the minimum sustainable level.

Talk to your drivers, the schools your children or other relatives attend, your church, if any, your city or county council, mayoral and city manager offices, colleges and universities…The time is ripe for citizen engagement to save money, health, even lives in quantity
Whaddaya mean, COULD? We will all have to.

At Duke Energy’s Marshall Substation in Hot Springs, heavy rains and flooding forced the shutdown of the facility. But Hot Springs was more fortunate than most. In 2023, Duke Energy had installed a microgrid of solar panels and lithium-ion batteries to restore power quickly in case of emergency.

In a first, Florida vaulted past California last year in terms of new utility-scale solar capacity plugged into its grid. It built 3 gigawatts of large-scale solar in 2024, making it second only to Texas. And in the residential solar sector, Florida continued its longtime leadership streak.

Why does Amazon want British ratepayers to subsidize its AI farms? Nuclear power plants are never built on time or under budget, and then they leave waste behind for others to clean up. There oughta be a law that big AI has to fund enough renewables and storage to support its operations in full.
Note: There is more news than I can put into one of these. In a few weeks, though, I will be done with Not the End of the World, and I can go back to doing these twice a week. I hope that turns out to be enough.
