This sounds vaguely familiar.
Graft and corruption is the grease that keeps the Russian military going.
x
1/ The huge reported scale of corruption in the Russian military wouldn't be possible without the active support and involvement of senior officers. An appeal to Putin from one Russian soldier highlights how even generals are likely to be profiting from the war in Ukraine. ⬇️

2/ One of the most important principles of modern Russian society is the concept of 'krysha', literally meaning 'roof' – a term borrowed from the Russian mafia to refer to protection from powerful individuals to enable criminal immunity for allies. It also works in the military.
3/ A Russian soldier has recorded an appeal to Putin describing the corruption he saw in the 139th Separate Assault Battalion, a Transbaikalia-based unit which has fought in the Donbas in Ukraine. He had previously been with the 19th Regiment of the 29th Combined Arms Army.
4/ The man accuses the commander of Russia's Eastern Military District - Lieutenant General Andrey Ivanaev – and Lieutenant General Yuri Grekov, deputy commander of Eastern Group of Forces, of colluding with corrupt officers to steal money from soldiers.
5/ He says that the two general removed the battalion's former commander, Alexei Klochkov, call sign ‘Chekist,’ from his post for ‘not selling humanitarian aid’ and ‘not bringing them money.’ Klochkov was said to be respected by his men.
6/ "It turns out that he was removed because he did not sell the humanitarian aid that they send us there. Because he was saving the personnel, because he did not bring [the generals] money, did not pay them – in the literal sense of the word."
7/ Klochkov is said to have been replaced as battalion commander by Kurabek Abdullayevich Karaev, call sign "Resort", who has a suspended sentence for abuse of office and extortion, and according to the soldier has an extensive record of corruption.
8/ "Since 2022, he has had 3 apartments in Donetsk registered in his name, which he rents out. Plus 2 military stores, where all the humanitarian aid is sold."
OK, so he ain’t John Bonham. But he’s got enthusiasm.
