In case you missed us: Miss a day or two? Need more Good News? Need a respite from ruin scrolling? New to Good News Roundups? Kicking doom scrolling out of your life?

The Five R’s of the Resistance:
I’ve repeated these for many years. I’ve added boycott.
- Resist: Boycott, protest on the streets, call senators and representatives, etc.
- Rebel: Run for office, GOTV (Get Out The Vote), support a progressive.
- Revolt: Change the laws, change the culture, build your communities.
- Rely: Trust that millions of others are fighting the good fight.
- Rest: Take care of yourself, we are in this for the long term.
WineRev’s Good and Goofy Notes
Watch for WineRev’s History Corner in the comments to see what others went through, struggled with, and surmounted in the past. His G&G comments are mini Good News Roundups. You can find all his comments here, even today’s, once he posts it. Tech Tip: You can search for >>> in Roundups to quickly find his comments.
WineRev, last Sunday:
Whew…...the Sunday Good News is here, thanks to 2thanks, and yes, we need it. This past week has been one of “those weeks” for the country’s democracy (low-lighted by the FBI arresting a judge for…..judging). BUT the Resistance keeps rising, the sand in the gears is causing all those grinding sounds, and the laments of FAFO’d MAGAs are louder than ever. You and me and everyone here are here at the Good News Round Up can enjoy the work of 2thanks getting the place open. The Gnuville Breakfast Brunch is that oasis in the desert of the Crazy and the Stricken, so please, c’mon in. Have your favorite Before-Noon Beverage (coffee, tea, mocha-cocoa, mimosa) and figure out something to chew on from the Steam Table (griddled, toasted, baked or microzapped.)
The Big Exhale Lounge is outfitted with serenity sofas, restful rockers, wafting wingbacks and reposing recliners so pick out a likely landing plop-spot. The WiFi is humming so as you sip, sigh, yawn, stretch and otherwise settle in, there are also stories to read, and opportunities to rec, reply, ask, console, cheer on, digress and chuckle (which is good for the body.) Thank you 2thanks for starting us up, and thank you YOU, for coming by and for being here. Your presence counts and hopefully the presence of the others here will be a present to you.
Science
Please share good science news with us! (Especially JWST, health, environment.)
A good place to look for science news if you are waiting for the Sunday Roundup is the archive of Overnight News Digest. On Saturdays, the OND always focuses on science, though not all of it is devoted to what I would call Good Science News.
Need more good news?
… arhpdx posted a list of good news sites toward the top of a recent Roundup, or you can find that same list in my comment: Good News Sources. Thank you, arhpdx and Mokurai!

You can use the map’s zoom arrows to resize the view and focus on your pin to find neighbors. Please note that the Google Map, though convenient to operate, is visually inaccurate because, among other issues, it enlarges North America and shrinks Africa [Maps present a distorted view of the world by kos].

Notes on Images
Top Image: Our Starhawk created the above this detailed sketch of a gnu in brown, green, and black on white. A happy and dynamic gnu rises on a hind leg in a classic heraldric rampant stance. Joyful letters prance above and behind the mane: “Happy Dance.” Signature: Nick Korolev, 2021. — Thank you, Starhawk, for our dancing gnu!
Section-Divider Images: On the far horizon, we see gnus ranging across the veld, a few acacia trees, and sunlit desert hills. [Copyright © 2024 2thanks, a member of dailykos.com. All Rights Reserved. A Little Bit About Me
On Thursday: I went to a May Day protest. 3 hours. Good turnout. Found out there were many protests in Ann Arbor that day. I met one person who planned to go to 3 protests, and another pair who planned to go to two.
On Friday: I toured the county jail as a member of the Arts Committee, one of 13 committees created by Sheriff Alyshia Dyer for citizen guidance. (As you may recall, Alyshia Dyer is the new County Sheriff whom Daily Kos helped elect (Thanks again from me!). She and her team have already made changes and improved lives.
- First change: Get ready for a new term: Alyshia initiated a change in terminology, similar to what jails have done in New York State. Under a new law there, residents of prisons must now be called "incarcerated individuals" instead of "prisoners" or "inmates." In our county, incarcerated individuals can also be called “residents.”
- Second change: Residents can now have their families come into the jail for a visit. Before Alyshia took office, residents of the jail could not have visitors at all! Unsurprisingly, this single change has had a major impact on behavior, and it has improved the lives of residents and even the guards! Residents can now even have face-to-face visits with their families around a table! I plan to report on other positive changes in the county sheriff’s office next Sunday and in following weeks. Turns out that qualifying for visits, planning visits, and looking for to visits is a great way to dispel the boredom of incarceration. 3 hours.
On Saturday: Alyshia hosted a party, and I chatted with her and her staff, other activists, a Michigan State Representative, and other people about protecting immigrants I know. I had good and important conversations, found local people and groups to talk to about protecting immigrants, etc.
11 hours of political activity in 3 days. Fun but exhausting. Great reason for a short Roundup.
I don’t know at this very early hour on Sunday morning if I will be able to wake up and participate in this diary when it posts. If I’m not here, please don’t worry but go ahead and get started without me. I’ll be along as soon as I can. Please enjoy the food, the camaraderie, and uplifted spirits.
Our Roundup is almost open!
Thank you for fighting for truth and justice with all us Gnusies! 40% of our Readers don’t visit every day, 50% of us do, and 10% are here for the first time! We all do what we can. Since 2017, we’ve shared positive news, laughed, organized, resisted, rebelled, revolted without being revolting, relied, rested, mentored, created, crossed rivers, chewed our cud, puffed methane out both ends, and laughed. Here’s looking at you, kid, and standing upwind! Beginners, you are cordially invited to comment!
As always, please share more Good News than I can find or provide.
This is a group diary, and by my power I declare this Good Gnus Salo(o)n open! Let the good-news sharing and community building begin! Laissez les bonnes nouvelles rouler!
Power with, not power over ❤️ ✊ ❤️
2thanks (he, him)
Thank You!: Many regular Roundup readers know that I’m the co-founding Admin and background mentor of the Good News Roundup group. Over the years I’ve supported and led this and other Daily Kos groups that have raised almost $1M for candidates, individuals, and groups. In response to my previous requests, many readers sent me gifts, $1625 so far toward my goal of $12,000. Team 2thanks thanks you! 💙
I’m now asking for help to pay for my wife’s medical treatments. If you value my gifts and activism, please don’t patronize me, but be my patron. Gift me via PayPal (click “Friend,”) Venmo, or CashApp, or send me a kosmail for my address. If you can't do that, I understand. Perhaps, instead, you could boost this story onsite or online. If you already sent me a gift, I bow deeply in gratitude. ~2thanks
