Happy Friday, Peeps — Hope you all have fun plans for the weekend. Today is National Sleepover Day, and I don’t know if that is as popular as it was when I was a sprout, but of course our furred friends love the idea of pizza, TV, gossip and PJs!
But First:
A gentle reminder of how we do things: 🐱🐶🐦
- Do not troll the diary. If you hate pootie diaries, leave now. No harm, no foul.
- Please do share pics of your fur kids! If you have health/behavior issues with your pets, feel free to bring it to the community.
- Pooties are cats; Woozles are dogs. Birds... are birds! Peeps are people.
- Whatever happens in the outer blog STAYS in the outer blog. If you’re having “issues” with another Kossack, keep it “out there.” This is a place to relax and play; please treat it accordingly.
- There are some pics we never post: snakes, creepy crawlies, any and all photos that depict or encourage human cruelty toward animals. These are considered “out of bounds” and will not be tolerated. If we alert you to it, please remember that we do have phobic peeps who react strongly to them. If you keep posting banned pics...well then...the Tigress will have to take matters in hand. Or, paw.
When I was a kid, it was something to look forward to in middle school — the girls getting together for a sleepover party. The thrill of being left alone to stay up all night! (Somehow lacks that thrill now...)
“Oooh… all the girls are here!”
“Pretend to sleep! Mom’s coming!’”
And of course, being in a strange house (not a usual treat)
We’d try to stay up ALL night, but for some of us that got to be too much
There was always one kid who was not so popular (usually me)
“Okay… who invited her?”
Telling ghost stories and trying to scare each other
And usually succeeding
Or playing Truth or Dare
“Liar, Liar!! Now you have to eat garlic!”
Generally makeup was involved — and those awful curlers!!
(BTW, I looked up cat nail polish — there are some amazing offerings for those who like fancy nails— but also a bit appalled to find colored “caps” to put on your pootie’s claws… nope!)
And snacks! It was a bit of a contest, seeing whose mom made the best snacks
“Pizza wins!”
“Pie is great, too.”
“Popcorn is plentiful”
And the next day, we’d be so tired we’d fall asleep at noon at home
And the hosting mom would have her own nap and treat
BTW, it is also Food Drive for Shelter Animals Month:
https://www.puppyup.org/may-is-go-fetch-food-drive-for-homeless-animals-month/
May is the month for Go Fetch! Food Drive for Homeless Animals. Community animal rescue organizations often find this expense in their top two costs. This is a great reminder to help support those in the community who are making it a better place, and it is also a good time to take a look at how one might contribute to their efforts.
According to “Tails Pet Magazine”, May has been designated as a time to highlight the need to provide food for homeless animals.
They say that there’s no right or wrong way and that it’s okay to be creative. Here are a few examples given by Tails Pet Magazine:
• Arrange a food drive challenge at schools, your office, churches, civic groups, your condo building or among your friends
• Set up donation bins at businesses, schools, your office, church, temple, a local grocery store
• If you own a business, offer discounts to people who bring food donations
According to the ASPCA, nationwide, between five and seven million companion animals (mostly dogs and cats) are taken into shelters every year—some surrendered by owners, some picked up by municipal animal control services.
To care for homeless dogs and cats, animal welfare organizations are always in need of:
- Dog food
- Cat food
- Cleaning supplies (including laundry detergent and bleach)
- Paper towels
- Towels
...Is there a community food bank in your area? Remember to donate not only food to help people, but dog and cat food as well. If you already support a food bank, can you give just a little more than usual during May?
Do you have any memories of sleepovers?
