For most of the last half-decade, Lindy Li was one of the most vocal influencers on the blue team. But in the aftermath of Kamala Harris losing to Donald Trump, Li has undergone one of the most total and opportunistic morphs I’ve ever seen in my years of being politically active. After blasting CPAC as a haven for sexual predators and telling Sky News that this country couldn’t afford Trump 2.0, Li has now rebranded as an archconservative Republican who has done everything short of glue a MAGA hat on her head.
Li has spent most of this past winter making the rounds of the tubes claiming Democrats are a cult, and that she has been a conservative all along. In a two-part interview with Dr. Phil, (part 1, part 2), Li spewed the usual shibboleth about how Democrats have gone too far left. Uh huh. This after she was an official content creator for the 2024 Dem Convention. The first edition of her new podcast, “Her Take,” shows just how far she has morphed. Li co-hosts it with Jillian Michaels, Ana Kasperian, and Amy Dangerfield. According to The Bulwark, Li slammed undocumented immigrants as “parasites” and openly endorsed the blatantly racist “Great Replacement” theory.
Li is pushing a new book, Unburdened, in which she claims she has information that will bury the Democrats for years to come. This piqued the interest of veteran political journalist Tara Palmeri, former senior columnist at Puck and former White House correspondent at ABC News who now runs her own Substack, The Red Letter. Earlier this week, Li sat down on “The Tara Palmeri Show” for one of her few interviews outside MAGA world since the election.
What ensued was yet another case of a Republican darling melting down in the face of actual journalism.
Palmeri noticed that Li had claimed she’d had “free rein” (sp?) in the Biden White House. But when Palmeri asked for a simple clarification, Li melted down on air.
TARA PALMERI: You also wrote that he, quote, “gave me free reign of the White House.”
Like, what does that mean, having free reign of the White House?
LINDY LI: You could go to places that were usually cordoned off.
TARA PALMERI: Like where?
LINDY LI: Like when you go there on a tour, it’s usually roped off. Or at Christmas parties, it is like, areas are, you’re just not allowed there. But I–.
TARA PALMERI: Like what parts?
(LENGTHY AGONIZING SILENCE)
LINDY LI: I wasn’t in the residence. I don’t know the specific part, the names of the parts. (PAUSE) I don’ know what you’re trying to get at.
TARA PALMERI: No, I was just, I’m just curious, because I saw in the book you also wrote that um, that you could take calls from the Lincoln Bedroom.
LINDY LI: All right, I asked your producer not to share–.
TARA PALMERI: I know, but why are you being sensitive about a book that you’re putting out?
LINDY LI: Because it’s it’s in draft form right now.
TARA PALMERI: Oh okay.
LINDY LI: It’s not even done. So you’re sharing a form. That’s like really Rough and I specifically he promised me that you wouldn’t be sharing this rough draft with–.
It’s not ready to be published And you’re sharing a draft that’s not done.
When pressed, Li conceded she was working with a ghost writer—and that passage was merely a rough draft. Li also whined that Palmeri was trying to “ambush” her.
Later, Li claimed high-level Democrats smeared her and called her all kinds of slurs. She went as far to say that former DNC chair Jamie Harrison had joined the vulture flock. But Palmeri did a quick Google search—and found this interview Harrison conducted with Roland Martin in February.
When pressed on it, Li dissembled in true MAGA fashion.
TARA PALMERI: Oh, let me see what he said. I didn’t know that.
(TYPES GOOGLE SEARCH)
What do you think that’s in your book that’s different than what’s coming out or what’s going out there?
LINDY LI: A lot of things.
TARA PALMERI: Like what?
LINDY LI: A lot things that haven’t been said.
TARA PALMERI: DN– former DNC chair destroys MAGA turncoat Lyn– Lyin’ Lindy Li. He called you Lyin’ Lindy Li.
Okay, so You you’re you’re saying a lot of things, but what are those things?
LINDY LI: You’re just gonna have to read my book.
It’s no wonder that Li is getting absolutely clowned on Twitter. Here’s a sample.
Unless I missed something, Li hasn’t even attempted to defend herself on her socials. Maybe on some level, she knows Palmeri has her busted.
