I keep reading about which demographics we should strive to attract, baby, condole, assuage, bribe, tempt, etc… in order to win elections, first off we’ve won elections. America runs on a cycle of left-right-left-right that is as predictable as the 4 seasons, so that’s one thing we need to stop claiming.
Now to the point, instead of trying to convince people on some spurious analysis that is ever changing (again like the seasons), how’s about we stop infantilizing voters? We are not talking to children, and before someone jumps in about education, a lack of education does not render one childish.
Might surprise you, but the problem isn’t so much elected democrats or candidates as it is the apparatus that surrounds democrats, from influencers, media, pundits and voters, we are the ones pushing narratives that make others stay away from us. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, stop buying into right wing BS and doing there jobs for them.
I listen to our elected officials and candidates, they are actually much more direct than we are. Listen to their speeches, read their bills, their policies, and most tell it like it is, are they always right? No. Do I always agree? No. But, lord jesus almighty listening to democratic voters or wannabe voters, you’d think our officials and candidates are out there talking about sex change and white teens every single minute of every single day. You’d think none of them (except their personal favorites) ever did anything concrete or correct or right.
We spend as much time if not more attacking democrats officials as right wingers… ain’t that something! And, when the right attacks and we pick up the rights weapons and we use them against ourselves. Stop that. Let’s have some examples, shall we?
Culture wars… pray tell which cultures are we at war with?
Identify politics… who is pushing this? Who is constantly babbling about identity? The right and us.
Working class… again when have our elected officials spoken against them? Never. Excluded them? Never
Young people… again talk to the folks calling them lost and depressed it ain’t us
Racial tensions… elected officials speak of unity and justice… who speaks of divide? Oh yeah… not elected officials
And so forth and so on.
The problem again isn’t elected officials or candidates, it’s all of us surrounding them that are entertaining the right’s narrative and acting as if their talking points were real issues that needed counter arguments no they need to be shut down, not debated. Someone tells me the earth is flat, I ask them to point out which countries are on the edge of the earth with a actual photograph showing the abyss, what I’m not going to do is discus geography and astronomy with that person. In other words, ask them to prove their points. We need to either shut down said narratives or ignore them.
You want to reach more electorate? Various demographics? Stop feeding the damn narrative of the right. Stop fucking talking about their view points and their takes. Talk about what our actual elected officials are talking about. No one speech, not one bill, but actually pay attention to them and their actions. And yes, you can disagree with them, however, stop demonizing our own to such a degree that when they do something you like you go “well finally!” Or some such nonsense. One does not have to agree on every single issue of every official in office, doesn’t make any of them monsters to be vilified.
And if you don’t want a certain type of people in office, either run yourselves, get someone to run and go vote in primaries, it’s really on you. Stop blaming billionaires or millionaires if someone’s allowed them to buy their votes. Money can’t bribe voters, if voters don’t take the damn bribe.
Know who talks down to potential voters? It’s not the candidates, it’s again us! We are the ones coming up with the nicknames and the memes and the clever insults, the patronizing, the condescension, it’s us… not our candidates or elected officials.
Also, most of our elected officials deal with each other quite respectfully, again it is us who spin out of control in defending those we prefer.
Anyways I’m done, this was of course brought to you by watching yet another segment of some commentator on the left, going after another elected democratic official.
