June 6, 1944. The largest amphibious invasion in history. 12 Allied nations took part.
Trump thought it was more important to post on Truth Social about the gaudy ballroom he is going to build at the White House. There's a bunch of other tweets, but no proclamation, no recognition at all. Trump created Victory in WWI and WWII Days, but he missed this crucial battle. Trump, instead, is going to play golf over the weekend and go to a UFC fight.
Volodomyr Zelenskyy remembered the day in a post.
It is almost ironic that Zelenskyy talks about the battle against Nazism with right-wing factions in other countries in Europe appearing. Also for the fact that Putin used getting non-existent Nazis in Ukraine as an excuse to start the war. There is/was the Azov Brigade that used symbols close to Nazi ones, and espoused some uncomfortable teachings, but there were 900 of them when the war started in 2022. Putin should attack his own country as there are many times more neo-Nazis in Russia, who have committed some heinous acts.
D-Day caught the Nazis by surprise. That surprise was made possible by General Eisenhower using General Patton as a decoy. The Nazis were sure that Patton would lead the attack, and Eisenhower used Operation Fortitude to make the Nazis think the invasion would take place in another location. Operation Quicksilver was a ficticious army made up of fake airplanes and tanks.
Inflatable tank.
There were even decoy buildings implying headquarters and barracks built. Fake radio transmissions added to the ruse. It worked. Operation Overlord hit the beaches of Normandy while the Nazis thought they'd land at Pas-de-Calais.
Enough history lesson. Donald Trump goes out of his way to co-op military remembrances like Memorial Day. He's going to use the June 14th 250th anniversary of the Army to turn it into his personal birthday parade. This has dropped off the radar, but it should come up again with TACO bone-spurs birthday being the same day. Last we heard it was going to take $45 million minimum to do and tank treads would rip up the pavement in Washington, D.C., causing millions more in repairs.
Zelenskyy and Trump are worlds apart in character and fortitude. We all know who the real commander-in-chief is.
