Texas Republicans are trying to redistrict the state way ahead of the next census to pick up more seats to keep a Republican majority in the House of Representatives, because it looks like they're going to lose it in 2026. It started with a Justice Department letter on July 7th saying that four majority-minority Black-brown districts were unconstitutionally racially gerrymandered according to the Civil Rights Act. Governor Abbott called a overtime special session of the Texas legislature ostensibly to cover other subjects, but this came up almost immediately. Jasmine thinks it's highly suspect.

If it looks like a gerrymander, talks like a gerrymander, and smells like a gerrymander, don't let that fool you. It really is a gerrymander.
