I missed it totally when I wrote about Donald Trump's July 3rd speech in Des Moines, Iowa. I thought he was talking about 20,000 to 25,000 people fighting for the 250th anniversary of the United States. He was talking about having a UFC fight on the White House grounds with 20,000 to 25,000 people watching.
"Dana is great. One of a kind. Gonna have a UFC fight, championship fight, full fight, like 20,000, 25,000 people. And we're doing that as part of 250," Trump said at the rally. Dana White is the president of UFC.
A UFC spokesperson confirmed the plans after Trump said later, "We're going to have a UFC fight on the grounds of the White House. We have a lot of land there. Every one of our National parks, battlefields and historic sites are going to have special events in honor of America 250. And I even think we're going to have a UFC fight."
Even UFC fight Conner MacGregor said he would come out of retirement for it.
It was only days after the 2024 election that Trump went to a UFC fight with Elon Musk, Mike Johnson and RFK Jr. at Madison Square Garden. I was horrified to see Trump glorifying violence with his presence and smiling about it. I wrote about how wrong it was. Little did I know how this was a portend for the future of the country.
Trump revels in violence. We knew that from his watching the Insurrection of Jan.6th on television for 3 hours, while doing nothing to stop the mayhem he inspired.
Hosting a UFC fight on White House grounds takes this glorification of violence to a new level.
Trump already loves the attacks on undocumented immigrants by ICE as as a way to satisfy his thirst. ICE's budget goes from $9.9 billion this fiscal year, to $150 billion in the next 4 years.
Kristi Noem reportedly was considering a reality TV show where migrants literally fought each other, the winner getting a fast-track to US citizenship. This was back in the middle of May, and spokespeople said Noem had nothing to do with it, while acknowledging the existence of the show pitch. She knew about it. The 35 page description of the show by writer-producer Rob Worsoff describes this Hunger Games inspired show. It fits right in with Noem's love of photo-ops. If it ever gets to fruition, you can bet she would participate.
Trump's love of violence was shown decades ago when he called for the death penalty of the Central Park Five, now called the Exonerated Five, because they were found to have had nothing to do with the crime.
Trump early on in his campaigning for his first term called for hecklers to be beat up and thrown out of his rallies.
This planned UFC fight at the White House to celebrate America's 250th birthday is an abomination. To underwrite violence as a way of life in America is reprehensible. It is no wonder that we are becoming a pariah among the civilized nations of the world.
Is this going to be government funded? Is UFC going to put it on for nothing? I think not.
If it's pay-per-view, Trump will want a cut of the action.
