The talking point coming from Trump and the Republicans is that the $900 billion in Medicaid cuts included in the Big Ugly bill will only effect undocumented immigrants and lazy bums who don’t want to work. They have rejected the findings from the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office that 17 million people will lose insurance as a result of these cuts.
MAGA Representative Derrick Van Orden (R-WI) voted for the cuts and actually celebrated people losing insurance and SNAP benefits. He posted “Yes!” on his Twitter/X account on July 3 about the prospect of millions of Americans losing benefits. The post has since been deleted but some screenshots were taken of the offending post. A link to that post is provided below from Senator Chris Murphy’s (D-CT) account.
Since the Big Ugly bill’s passage, Van Orden is singing a different tune. Reality has set in. He sent a letter to Wisconsin Democratic Governor Tony Evers begging him to spare Wisconsin’s rural hospitals from the cuts that he voted for and celebrated.
Van Orden pleaded with Evers to quickly sign the Wisconsin state budget:
“I cannot emphasize enough the importance of signing the proposed state budget into law without delay,” Van Orden wrote. “As you are aware, timely enactment is especially critical this year due to the proposed increase in the state provider tax, which must be effectuated before the anticipated signing of the One, Big, Beautiful Bill on or around July 4, 2025.”
You can’t make this stuff up. We are governed by idiots.
“One needn’t merely take liberals’ word when it comes to assessments of the megabill’s potentially catastrophic impacts on the country. Many Republicans themselves — Van Orden included — seem to understand the bill is primed to cause a great deal of harm,” wrote Ja’Han Jones of MSNBC.
The Democrats are winning big in the 2025 elections. This is the most under reported story in American politics. There is a huge backlash to Trump and MAGA. Nonetheless, the mainstream press is addicted to a “Democrats in disarray” narrative. Despite our divisions, we keep winning elections. We are united against the threat to freedom and democracy posed by Trump and MAGA.
The Republicans are committing political suicide by voting for this bill. Already, there has been a huge backlash to Trump and MAGA. Despite our divisions, we keep winning elections. We are united against the threat to freedom and democracy posed by Trump and MAGA.
The tide is turning. Be confident going forward. Take nothing for granted. Keep working hard. Blue wave 2026!
