I had an unusual dream today, one that I thought I’d share with you and solicit some feedback on.
Here goes:
It was a glorious summer day in CNY, the temps hovering in the mid-70’s, sunny with an azure blue, cloudless sky overhead. The perfect kind of day for going on a walk in the woods.
It was late morning when I came down the stairs in my Dad’s house and rounded the wall, coming face to face with a large, golden colored Mountain Lion who was speaking to family members in the living room. I wasn’t afraid, instead I was elated for I hadn’t seen him in a while. He trotted over to where I was standing and in cat-like way, began to rub his cheeks against me, purring loudly. He had to be about 120 pounds, finely muscled, well fed and a very happy kitty. He was careful not to knock me over as he whirled around me rubbing his cheeks against me and head butting me as well.
I found myself sitting down on the white settee nearby and he jumped into my lap.
“Ooff! You are so heavy!” I exclaimed with a smile as he extorted me to,
“Scratch my cheeks! Yes, just like that!”
His eyes were closed as he head butted my face and rubbed against my hands, purring loudly. He kept turning his head so I could get both sides of his face.
“Don’t stop petting my head! Scratch my chin! Yes, right there, that feels great!”
After a few moments, he stood up and turned around on my outstretched legs, stomping over me as I scratched his back. He didn’t know whether to lay down for me to scratch his back or to face me so I could pet his cheeks again.
“Scratch both my back and cheeks!” He said with a loud purr, and so I tried to do both.
After a moment, he opened his golden eyes and looked deeply into mine and said, “I want to go for a walk in the woods.”
“We will, but you have to come back when called.” I replied softly.
We then found ourselves standing in the meadow across the street that sloped gently down to the river and I was still petting my happy cat on his back. He was purring loudly as he surveyed his surroundings.
“When you don’t pay attention to me and run out into the road, I am afraid you will be hit by a car and killed. That would break my heart.” I said as I looked down at him.
He looked back up at me and gave me the slow blink for he could see I had started to cry.
Still crying, I said to him, “Someday in the woods, you will leave me to go start your own life and I will be very sad to see you go. But, go away you must.”
I woke saddened that my beloved Mountain Lion would be leaving me soon.
