Nonsense about declining birth rates: let population decline to a sustainable level

I’ve seen a lot of quite nonsensical arguments implying we are  going to go extinct because of the current trend in developed countries that are having fewer children to the extent that population size is declining because deaths exceed births.  

Births are declining below replacement because of so many disincentives to having children.  Most women are forced into the labor force during childbearing years in order to have enough income, and then have a second job coming home and caring for their children.

The solution is very simple.  Regard child rearing as work -— and it is work !!  And pay parents enough money to rear children while having a decent standard of living. 

Increasing automation already allows us to do this.  We can produce everything that is needed with a much smaller labor force.  

Can you imagine what will happen if all the world achieves the current American pattern of consumption with 10 billion people?  Madness!!  We need  population decline nearly everywhere. 

We need a smaller population so as to have a sustainable future.  Right now we are burning up non-replaceable resources at a suicidal rate.  We have global warming.  We have declining water resources in many locales.  It is imprudent to maintain current population levels.

So let’s have fewer children until the human population is no longer devouring the world we live in.  

We can put the brakes on population decline at any time by paying parents for rearing children.  It is a no brainer.
