All across the media landscape republicans are talking about “sunsetting” Social Security. It’s kind of flying under the radar with all that’s going on with the Epstein files, the militarization of our cities, and gerrymandering the 2026 elections.
The Problem
Never mind that the Budget bill and Doge slashed Social Security Administration staff. That’s not enough to satisfy the greedy republicans. They’ve been working hard for decades to try and take this earned benefit away from all of us.
They want a slice of the pie.
They want that money in private hands, instead of the US government.
Then they’ll over regulate it and make it hard to access when it’s needed.
Then they’ll also chip away at it with fees.
It’s gross, unethical and wrong!
Who has their fingers in the Social Security pot?
Before you say to yourself, “Hmmm, I thought E. J. Antoni was the nominee for the head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics?” know this — those statistics feed the COLA adjustment for Social Security payments.
He’s also called Social Security a “Ponzi scheme” and thinks it’s good to “sunset the program.” The audio clip below uses both of those terms. He tries to make it all sound reassuring with saying it would only happen to future recipients. Number one, probably not true because republicans are liars. Number two, it’s a classic attempt at division that is done with labor contracts to gain support from some at the expense of others.
Another option is to increase funding into the program. A much simpler solution and more fair. But republicans have no interest in that obvious solution.
Also, Antoni is a fan of Nazis so that’s never a good thing.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent weighs in...
Then there’s there other tactic that’s being pursued with a vengeance — destroying the program from within.
Sharing this May, 2025 article here as a gift link: How DOGE’s grand plan to remake Social Security is backfiring from the Washington Post.
The headline gives far too much credit to DOGE’s goal, which was never to remake Social Security, but to destroy it, while at the same time siphon off all the critical data it holds about each of us.
The article mentions that there has been a field office that lost all of it’s staff through early retirement options — imagine if that was your field office!

Cutting staff and privatizing Social Security won’t improve the system and will only prevent hard-working Americans from accessing their benefits. These are serious consequences. We must improve and protect Social Security, not tear it down.

What the Democrats have to say about it.
Here’s the Democrats Daily Blueprint broadcast on the day of the 90th Anniversary of the life altering program.
This broadcast is less than 6:30 minutes long and does a good job of breaking down the facts about the program, what the Democrats are doing, and what we can do.
Democrats have been working tirelessly to remind people of the importance of this program. The DNC has enlisted the support of Martin O’Malley, the former Commissioner of the Social Security Administration, and former Governor of Maryland.
What the Democrats are doing about it.
Democrats have introduced legislation to protect the program. Which is no surprise. They’ve been fighting for decades to protect, expand, and strengthen the program. This is another good example of both parties are NOT the same.
What we can do to help protect the program.
- Stay vigilant readers, and don’t hesitate to contact your Members of Congress to let them know how you feel about the program.
- Talk about the risk to the program with everyone you know — it will take ALL of us to keep this in the spotlight.
- Make signs supporting social security at the next protest you attend.
- Vote, and Vote for Democrats! It’s the easiest way to make positive change.
