Ya’ll, pull up a chair.
It’s 2025, we're living in a world where Stephanie Donegan, a GOP candidate in Georgia, hit “share” on a viral conspiracy clip claiming that “most of the slaves in this country were actually white” (yes, you read that right) and that Black Americans are more Native American than African.
She didn’t invent it—but she spread it like free cake at a family reunion. (See RawStory for the cringe‑fest). But let's be real—that’s the kind of white wash of history aka disinformation that deserves a permanent spot in your nightmares.
That Black folks in Black face are spreading this nonsense? All I can say is I hope the dollars they are making selling out their community helps keep them cool in hell.
I hope she is eating well and getting changes of clothing brought to her.
Now, back in Texas, we’ve got Rep. Nicole Collier—a Black Democratic lawmaker from Fort Worth—who’s giving us some real-life “House Arrest Chic” realness. She refused the “permission slip” forced on her by Republicans requiring DPS escorts just to walk freely through the Capitol after many Democrats refused to go along with the Republican majority’s redistricting power grab.
What did she do?
She pulled a Beyoncé and said, “I’ ain’t signing that shit,” then camped out overnight on the House floor with a livestream rolling to tens of thousands of views—like the most politically charged slumber party of the year. (Slate's got the tea, but with a side eye of bothsidesism I could not stomach.)
Look, is she “locked up” in chains?
No.
But being told your movement comes with a DPS shadow just sign away your dignity? That’s like being dosed with political scopolamine. And this kind of coercion should be—I dunno. Illegal?
This isn’t symbolic.
This ain’t cute.
Keep all eyes on Texas and their tomfoolery.
When an elected lawmaker has to file a habeas corpus petition—normally used for prisoners—to be able to do her job, we’re not talking about “protocol.” We’re talking captivity under duress.
And what do Republicans do? Gaslight. Call her “hysterical.” Pretend a Black woman refusing to be followed by cops 24/7 is just having a “moment.” The optics ain’t subtle, y’all—MAGA world is collectively laughing at the sight of another beautiful and strong Black Texas woman told to sit down and hush.
But here’s the question nobody seems pressed enough to ask: Where are the Democrats? Why isn’t Collier’s stand being kept in the headlines like we did for Gavin Newsom when he flexed against Trump? Why isn’t there a coordinated push to make her fight the centerpiece of every press conference, every rally, every Sunday talk show? Because if Collier can be boxed in and brushed off as “overreacting,” it sets a chilling precedent for every other Democrat—especially women and lawmakers of color.
Collier is showing us the playbook. The least her own party can do is amplify it, loudly and consistently.
