Today Donald Trump threatened the State of Colorado with "harsh measures" unless the state freed one of his supporters convicted by a state jury for illegally tampering with election machines.
Tina Peters was a Colorado election official who concocted an elaborate scheme to illegally hack into Colorado election machines and steal data. Convinced by Trump's lies, she believed the machines held data proving election fraud. After the illegal hack she released the data to whackadoodle "My Pillow" guy Mike Lindell who, in turn, dramatically published it on his website during one of his silly symposiums. Alas, the stolen data showed zero evidence of election fraud.
For more on what Peters did, you can read my article on it HERE.
Not knowing what all had been done to the machines, Colorado had to trash them all and buy new ones, at taxpayer expense.
A jury convicted Peters of four felony counts, including conspiracy to identity theft, and several misdemeanor charges. She was sentenced to nine years in prison. As recently as last month a judge denied her request to be released while her appeal is pending.
Yesterday, Trump posted on social media demanding her immediate release while describing her as, "a brave and innocent Patriot who has been tortured by Crooked Colorado Politicians." Please note, politicians didn't convict her. A jury of ordinary Coloradans did.
Trump demanded her release "RIGHT NOW" adding, "If she is not released, I am going to take harsh measures!!!" Because this was a state conviction Trump can't pardon Peters.
Yet another attack on state sovereignty by the supposed party of states rights. Yet another example of weaponized justice, because weaponization includes as much the protection of friends from their criminal acts, as it does the persecution of enemies.
