I think this video does an excellent job of exploring the forces historically capable of ending fascism or oligarchic right-wing rule, and which forces are incapable of fighting them. Incrementalism has been the name of the Democratic game for decades, but as we can see from our own history, that incrementalism has failed. Baby steps forward leave millions in the dust of poverty and inequity, and those voters are required for the sort of mass movement that is required to produce real change. No amount of stomping our feet and demanding their allegiance to a slow bend of history towards justice will get them to the polls. They need relief now, they need liberty now, and anyone who promises a half measure or who is seen to be negotiating with the group we all know to be the enemy will be dismissed out of hand.
The video makes the point that there may be an opportunity for us to bring about this change without the sort of mass violence that ignited this sort of change in the past. To do so, however, we have to abandon the middle-of-the-road politics that seeks to appease the oligarchs while advancing the cause of equity.
The only way forward is a powerful, massive, leftist movement that aligns behind an agenda of real equity, and agenda that actively moves to break the back of oligarchic rule. Unions. Minimum wage. High taxes for the wealthy. Accountably for big business. Shattering big tech. Shattering the forces that buoy the police state.
Anything less will fail, and will lead ultimately to another global and/or national moment of mass violence that will cost millions and millions of lives.
