Good Evening from the Very Much Cleaner Than Yesterday Casa Brillig! Let me explain… Casa Brillig is just north of Boston, and for the first two decades of our marriage Mr. Brillig’s parents lived relatively close to us, about a half hour west of Boston. A decade or so ago they moved to the house they built on land in southern New Hampshire and have co-housed with his sister and her family. As Dad’s health and mobility declined, their trips down to visit us became less frequent, and the last time they visited us here in our house was in 2018.
Dad passed away earlier this year, and tomorrow I’m going to NH to bring my MIL down for a weeklong visit! We’re planning on bringing her for Ethiopian food, to some of our favorite local places, and having plenty of downtime to visit here where we don’t have to walk under my BIL’s Dont Tread On Me flag to get inside. I’m really excited, but… I needed to get the house ready for her to visit!!! That took all of today, and my plans for tonight’s diary went out the window.
HOWEVER…
Over the weekend there was a very active diary from Rob in Vermont on what version of the Front Page (New vs Old) folks use. The diary stemmed from a comment kos made in his diary Why Daily Kos is moving to WordPress, where he said:
“On the front page design: I know some folks prefer the old version, but it’s used by only about 100 people out of our entire readership. We simply can’t justify maintaining two separate front pages indefinitely, so that older format won’t be carried forward.”
As most of you know, I’m a member of the dKos Community Advisory Panel. When I saw Rob’s diary, I mentioned it in our groupchat to make sure all members of the panel saw it. Markos replied in it and asked us to pass his words along, so I’m doing that here given my comment on Rob’s diary is late and buried in the comments. So here’s kos’ response:
So I double checked and glad I did, because I was wrong, and didn’t capture the full number of people who use it (I think I was looking at concurrent). The total number of uses on the old layout is 3,000. I’m traveling and can’t post a correction and update, but if you guys want to deliver that message, I’d appreciate it.
Consider it delivered, kos! Also consider this an open thread for anything y’all reading tonight might want to share regarding what you love about the current site and how it works, and what you wish you could do or it would do better. I can promise that a working Search function is probably the #1 issue on EVERYONE’s list already!! [note: there will be lots of options for you to voice your thoughts, and while this isn’t an Official List Of Things I do promise everything you mention here will get shared in our advisory panel slack.
