The Children are watching, the children are terrified

Right now a child in the US or should I say many children in the US, are asking their parents if they can sleep with them, they are telling their parents they are scared. Some might be crying, some might be quiet, but believe me right now in every street where ICE is, children are terrified!

Children are watching their friends and neighbors grabbed and dragged, beaten and bloodied and then vanished. Children are watching their classmates disappear. Children are watching the fear growing in their parent’s eyes and the children of the United States of America are terrified.

Children are having nightmares and night terrors, they are hearing the screams in their sleep, they are reliving these moments whether witness live or otherwise and are taking it all in. The same children who lived through the trauma of Covid. Are now getting additional trauma.

And it is all the children, even the children of maga families. This level of violence and government terrorism does not only affect those targeted, but also affects everyone. Even the ones crowing online with false bravado, believe me, they too are scared.

For over a year in Haiti, Nate slept with me, in my bed. When we left Haiti it took him almost a year to move into his room. To this day more than 2 years after we left, walking in the streets or going out in the streets is traumatizing for him. To this day any sudden noise gives us a momentary panic attack.

You think COVID was hard to get over? You can explain COVID. You can’t explain what is going on now. You don’t even understand what is going on now. This trauma will never be dealt with, only mitigated.

The US government is scarring the children of the United States of America. The US government is reaping innocence away from the children with a razor blade laced with hate.
