I’m so relieved. It appears that Republicans, especially those in the U.S. Senate, are going to prevent Trump from invading Greenland. This is the same bunch that failed to convict Trump twice after he was impeached. But it appears some Senate Republicans are loudly complaining that Trump’s proposed “acquisition” of Greenland will not stand!
Who the fuck are they kidding?
As Rick Wilson pointed out last week, at least 12 Senate Republicans are actively soiling themselves over Trump’s threats about taking over Greenland. And some appear to be coming out of the shadows to put on an act for us plebeians.
Republicans vow to block Trump from seizing Greenland by force
Uh huh. Right.
Two Republican senators — Sens. Thom Tillis (N.C.) and Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) — plan to travel to Copenhagen on Friday to assure the Danish prime minister that there would be strong Republican opposition to any effort by Trump to use military force to seize Greenland.
“I’m going to remind them that we have coequal branches of government and I believe that there [is a] sufficient number of members, whether they speak up or not, that are concerned with this,” Tillis said of Trump’s threats.
“The actual execution of anything that would involve a taking of a sovereign territory that is part of a sovereign nation, I think would be met with pretty substantial opposition in Congress,” he said.
Tillis “thinks” it would be met with pretty substantial opposition. Does that sound kinda “vowish” to you all? It doesn’t to me.
Then, there is the obligatory “on background” Republican senator who states this would be bad for NATO and only help the Russians and Chinese out. He/she is so brave that this was reported anonymously. Real leadership and courage speaking.
And there are quotes from the Satanic Turtle of Kentucky, Senator Mitch McConnell. An evil old man lecturing another demented evil old man to not go into Greenland. Naturally, McConnell just states it will break up NATO, but Trump wants to break up NATO. And without a threat of say conviction of impeachment — this is Mitch McConnell we are talking about — this is all gas emanating from a corpse on the Senate floor.
And to throw in some bipartisan stupidity on this subject, we have Democrat Shaheen and Republican Murkowski trying to come up with a bipartisan bill to do the following:
Murkowski has teamed up with Shaheen to co-sponsor a bill that would prohibit the use of Defense Department funds to blockade, occupy, annex or conduct military operations against Greenland or any sovereign territory of a NATO member state. Their bill would also block the State Department from using funds to do the same.
And what happens when Trump just ignores that bill if it becomes law? Look at what happened to the Epstein transparency bill. Trump violates it and then...NOTHING.
I have no respect for Shaheen seeing as she is one of the eight Democratic Senate capitulators when it comes to budget showdowns with Trump. And I have contempt for Murkowski. Neither will do anything if by some miracle their bill becomes law.
The only real solution is for Senate Republicans to meet with Trump and threaten him with conviction if he is impeached. And mean it. But I haven’t read of any emergency gatherings of Senate Republicans to discuss this insanity from Trump.
And let’s face it. The U.S. Senate is where Trump derives all his protection and power. It takes 67 senators to convict a president after he has been impeached. And to be honest, I don’t think we would get all Democrats to vote for conviction.
Yes, I’m thinking of that asshole Fetterman. He is on a vendetta against Democrats, and I could see him looking at this as a golden opportunity to shit all over his fellow Democrats. I’ve seen this kind of reckless vindictive behavior in the flesh from family members who have mental illness. And Fetterman fits that bill to a T.
Therefore, we would need 21 Republicans to have the courage to….Oh who the fuck am I kidding? Most of them are scared shitless that Trump will sic his followers on them. They get a few death threats, and so-called Republican “leaders” suddenly turn into quivering masses of jelly.
Democrats get death threats too, but you don’t see all of them fall in line with Trump.
Anyway, Republicans are putting on a show right now. Behind closed doors, I’m sure Republicans sound like this about defying Trump:

Another reason why I think this is all theater is that all these senators and congressmen are going to see the Danes to try and reassure them that Trump will not invade Greenland. Why do you they need to go and tell the Danes this? The problem is Trump not the Danes. I’m sure the Danes will never say this in public, but I’m betting that Republicans will actually tell the Danes to “Just ignore that old man. He will forget about this soon enough and go onto something else!”

As to who is really going to stop Trump, it would have to be the military. And to be honest, I don’t have much faith in the military leadership. I’m thinking back to Vietnam and the second Iraq War. No one wanted to stick their neck out to oppose multiple presidents.
I hope I am wrong about that last one. But there are really too many people in D.C. who want someone else to deal with Trump. It’s how we got into this shitty situation. McConnell didn’t want to convict Trump during the second impeachment trial because he didn’t want the blowback from Trump cultist. McConnell literally said “Let the Democrats deal with that SOB” when Biden became president.
Sadly, Biden appointed the last man we needed to effectively prosecute Trump: Merrick Garland. It solidified the reputation that Democrats have of being ineffective and the gang that cannot shoot straight. And we need to look no farther than Chuck Schumer to see that we still have that problem when it comes to political warfare with the fascists who run the Republican Party.
Sadly, I think it is very possible that Trump will invade Greenland. And God help us all.
