The White House released their version of what happened in Washington DC on January 6, 2021, on the day of the fifth anniversary (January 6, 2026). In their version, President Trump urged the crowd to march to the Capitol to "peacefully and patriotically make their voices heard." This statement is factually correct and was included in the first half of President Trump’s speech. But the White House version excludes that President Trump told his followers that he would be marching to the Capital with them, and it excludes that he said, “And we fight. We fight like hell. And if you don't fight like hell, you're not going to have a country anymore.” President Trump said this towards the very end of his speech. Also, what is glaringly missing from the White House fifth anniversary version is what President Trump said on January 7, 2021. He said, “The demonstrators who infiltrated the Capitol have defiled the seat of American democracy. To those who engaged in the acts of violence and destruction, you do not represent our country. And to those who broke the law, you will pay." Also missing from the fifth anniversary version is an explanation of when President Trump changed his views of his supporters who infiltrated the capital and fought like hell. I can only assume that his views of his supporters changed after he left office. Had his views changed before noon on January 20, 2021, he could have easily pardoned all of them while he was still president. The main reason any of President Trump’s supporters spent time behind bars is that President Trump abandoned them, and as President Trump said on January 7, 2021, they were arrested for their crimes, were given due process, and were convicted by a judge or by a jury of their peers.
President Trump and I were wholeheartedly in agreement on January 7, 2021. He changed, but not me.
