I’m talking about boosting our own, in order to show that we too have numbers, it’s a way for those of us who feel demoralize or despondent to gain a measure of hope. Because while we say “there’s more of us than them” the numbers often don’t reflect that. I want to change that.
Why for example, the right-wing social media platforms and podcasters have such massive audiences and followers while even our most popular ones do not? It’s not like hitting a subscribe or follow button cost you any money. And I know, some will say well the algorithm pushes right wing stuff, yeah it does, because their channels / followers are bigger.
There’s a psychological and technical aspect to all this. When the owners of those sites see who has the biggest numbers, they figure those are the ones most Americans like and thus push more of those. If Lawrence O Donnel had 500M followers, the psychological shift in perspective would cause a reaction. People would see, yeah, we truly have more folks on our side.
As it stands, we keep ceding ground because we’re too busy slicing and dicing each other (not criticizing) to unite and band together to show the opposition our might and our strength. One of the reasons they are winning is because they perceive us as not viable because of numbers.
If we push the numbers, we grow the viewership, the audience is exposed to our narrative, perception changes, and we start regaining ground. Because for the last time, it is not the messaging, it is not the policies, it is the lack of distribution of those that is one if not THE biggest problem. We have let the right control the narrative for far too long.
The truth is the maga base is far more engaged with their podcasters and leaders than we are, yes bots notwithstanding. No one is saying plop you derriere in front of your screen to tv 24/7, but a few minutes here and there can make a difference in the algorithms. A follow, a like, a comment.
Anyways just be a bit more engaged. And I’m sharing this outside of DK, but I gotta say a lot of the comments I read on DK seem to imply that a lot of you only engage on DK. Food for thought.
