This will be brief as Mr. Rise passed away a week ago and I am squeezing in the photo bits I had started collecting a while ago in between taking care of other business.
Some background: I moved into an elementary school repurposed to senior apartments a year ago. In the gym, the village rec department offers pickleball three times a week, a great selling point for me! But that’s another story.
While playing pickleball, I gave a friend a tour of my new apartment and she saw quilts on display and my serger and sewing machine set up and she told another friend who invited me to their bi-weekly sewing bees. I was wowed by the enormous room set up with five sewing machine stations, fabrics, quilts, quilt supplies and quilts in progress.
The photo above shows some pieces pinned to a piece of vertical felt to help the designer place the pieces in a good orderly direction.
The quilt top below has been quilted on a long-arm quilter. I’ve never seen one before and watching it quilt a full-size quilt in one hour that would take me months to complete was impressive. I tried to post a video of the machine in use, but I don’t have the tech savvy to do that!
So that’s all I have for now. I’m sure I’ll be visiting again as the friend asked me if I would be interested in making a T-shirt quilt for someone she knows.
