None of this needed to happen.
- We certainly had problems with immigration, but none that required sending violent paramilitary forces into American cities. And, then, once this unnecessary, worst-possible-path had been chosen, using the rise of an organic resistance movement to this cruelty as an excuse to threaten a follow-on force of actual U.S. military units. (And never mind the lie about only targeting violent felons among immigrants.)
- Using outrageously expensive missiles and military aircraft disguised as civilian aircraft to kill people in small boats that may or may not have been ferrying drugs was cruel, against the law and an incredible waste of resources. It did little or nothing to impact drugs being trafficked into our country, according to most experts, though that was the administration’s pretext for these strikes, and the follow-on takeover of Venezuela. It was yet another created crisis that did not exist prior to these senseless and needless actions.
- Then there is our latest manufactured “crisis,” Greenland. Enough said.
This list of fomented, phony crises goes on and on, from “vaccines-cause-autism” to cracking down on universities under the guise of “fighting antisemitism.”
The Trump/Heritage Foundation administration foments false crises to provide their twisted “rationale” for seizing power.
Everything under this regime that could loosely be called “policy” flows from this fundamental tenet.
This Heritage Foundation-driven insanity is, of course, a naked power grab. Either voters weren't paying attention, or the conditions were right for an angry electorate to want to "burn the house down." What we are witnessing is the total dismantling of a democratic society, ricocheting from one trumped-up “crisis” to another, all with the intention of consolidating power in this perverse version of the Executive Branch.
It turns out, these radical policies are not popular, as we see in surveys and polling, but the ceding of power by the Republican-controlled legislative branch and the corruption of the Supreme Court mean those crafting these extremist schemes are no longer encumbered by popular opinion. They can do as they please, no matter how outrageous or insane.
I think there is a real question as to whether or not the Trump/Heritage administration will allow the mid-term elections to proceed without radical interference. They no longer care what the American people think, and Republicans in the House and Senate are either too cowardly to stop this usurpation of democracy, or outright support it. (See the recent uptick in cowardly Republicans backing Trump on Greenland.)
None of this needed to happen. Every one of these fomented “crises” was manufactured. The press legitimizes this closed loop of “created crisis-predictable Trump/Heritage response-power grab” by not questioning why we have these fraudulent “crises” in the first place.
We can organize, we can protest and we can vote. And we must be willing to do these things under threat of assault, both legal (from a corrupt DOJ) and violent (from Trump’s paramilitary thugs).
But all of it is a fraud. Every fake “crisis,” every predictable worst possible response and every follow-on reaction to the situations they create. We must fight back.
