"For the first time in Nobel history, war was threatened because a head of state did not receive the Peace Prize”
The declared acting president of Venezuela, TACO Tuesday Trump lies: “I think (Denmark) should keep it (Greenland).”
Can the USA say the same?
Donald Trump and Republicans talk about Greenland the way Vladimir Putin has long talked about Ukraine. Both insist that:
-
The target is not a real nation.
-
That it has autonomy only as a historical accident.
-
That its possession is required for purposes of the hegemon’s national security.
-
That NATO is treating it unfairly by interfering with the hegemon’s legitimate claims.
America has adopted Putinism as its modus operandi for foreign affairs.
So tell me: Why would America not also adopt Putinism in its domestic affairs? Why would the American regime tolerate free and fair elections or the transfer of power to an opposition party?
Are there examples of expansionist, rogue regimes which ignored international law and attempted to subjugate free people abroad, but respected liberal democratic outcomes that terminated their possession of power at home?

Vladimir Putin has been attempting to influence Donald Trump to seize both Venezuela and Greenland since at least 2017. Rather than approach Trump outright with an explicit quid-pro-quo arrangement,

What Rubio was saying is that Europe must conform to the new US-style authoritarianism and for continued protection. His speech was a threat. Anyone understanding it otherwise is a fool.
Rubio gives a speech on the importance of European security to the USA, and does not mention Russia, Ukraine or the greatest war in Europe since 1945 once in the text.

Perhaps the biggest concern voiced by European officials now is that Trump will agree to almost any kind of deal on Ukraine, to claim a victory even if it sets Mr. Putin up for future attacks. “A very quick peace will not result in a Nobel Prize for peace,” but in “another aggression.”
