Although Senator Tom Cotton grew up in Arkansas, he now lives in Virgina. He considered his Senate seat so safe that he rarely visited the predominately red State of Arkansas except to attend big fundraisers.
All that changed in late 2025. His home state visits, social media posts and meetings with state special interest groups are now sharply on the rise.
Hallie Shoffner is the cause.
Her grassroots campaign against him as a Democrat has begun to rattle a cage. Now, whenever he posts to social media about his more frequent visits, or something he has done to “improve” the state, the comments section below the post ends up filled with derisive comments and support for his opponent.
Every Single Time.
Hallie began her campaign shortly after losing her rice farm in Newport, Arkansas last year.
She was attending an open town hall in Little Rock where all the AR Representatives and Senators had been invited. The building was packed with 800+ concerned constituents. The politicians never showed. They were ALL at an $8000 a plate fundraiser for Tom Cotton just 6 blocks away that night.
Hallie had just sold all of the equipment from her farm at auction the day before. Everything used on a farm that had been in continues operation for 150 years went to the auction block. Tariffs and the “Big Beautiful Bill” had eliminated the markets for everything she and her neighbors grew on their fertile land.
She recalled the words of St Augustine: “Hope has two Daughters: Anger and Courage”.
She was plenty mad that night.
Shortly after, she announced her campaign against Senator Cotton and filed as a Democrat in September.
Her message spread. A carefully thought out, fact based progressive platform that spoke directly to the problems of average Arkansans quickly grew her war chest to over a million dollars. Something never seen in modern Democratic politics in Arkansas.
The other side is beginning to gin up the smear campaigns. Ready to crap them out once the state primary is over in March (Hallie is the front runner).
Initial assaults have failed bigly so far.
Cotton’s camp spent a lot of money to get email lists/social media accounts of Democratic voters and sent out the usual lies trying to link her with “Chuck Shumer and his Liberal Woke agenda”. Many folks on those lists he bought had never heard of her. They have now! Thanks Tom.
Arkansas used to be a Blue State back in the 90’s and it will be again. Hallie notes that if she wins the Senate, the Democrats will be in majority control again.
All the State Union organizations have endorsed her. Her platform states that she will not take money from huge PACs run by billionaires like her opponent has.
I have followed all Arkansas politics closely since moving here 31 years ago.
In my honest opinion, Hallie Shoffner is the perfect candidate for the perfect storm about to wash over the Republican Party.
