When the right wing began screaming about how trans women were "stealing" opportunities from cis women in sports, us trans folks tried to sound the alarm and tell everyone this wasn't about sports, and we were told that we were overreacting, that people could have reasonable concerns, and we watched our supposed allies throw us all the way under the bus in the name of electability.
When the right wing began passing record numbers of bills that banned trans kids from being in sports, that banned trans people from using the right bathroom, and that ultimately banned care for trans minors we were told we were overreacting and that it was reasonable concerns and we again watched our supposed allies ignore our plight because we were a "distraction", or because we didn't poll well as an issue, or because there were just so many other more important things to worry about.
Now they're working on further steps towards a trans genocide, and they are spelling it out. Make no mistake, that is what this is. If I have my HRT taken away, I will die, there is no two ways about it. Removing my ability to access HRT is the same as removing the ability of a diabetic to access insulin. It's lethal. Not just for me, but for thousands of other trans people across the country.
We are not overreacting, we never were, what we have been, what we have always been, is the canary in the coal mine. They come for our rights first because we're a tiny minority that most folks don't understand and many, even those on the left, find "icky".
I've been on this site a long time, and have had dozens of interactions with other members of this site who were fully on board with banning trans kids from sports, who were fully on board with "reasonable concerns" about transition care for minors, and who insisted, INSISTED that us trans folks were taking away oxygen from actual "important" issues.
Well, it's here. they're going after every trans person's care now.
Heritage Foundation president Kevin Roberts recently endorsed taking care away from transgender adults, saying in an episode of the PBD podcast that the organization is currently "running the numbers" on the supposed correlation between gender-affirming surgeries and violence. His proposed solution? "You outlaw it."
The heritage foundation, the architects of project 2025 and the current administration is now setting it's sights on banning gender affirming care for everyone nationwide. They've already succeeded in practically eliminating trans health care in multiple states, and are trying to finish us off before they move on to genociding the rest of the queer community.
From the article:
In 11 states, the care is already restricted for adults through laws preventing Medicaid from covering the treatment for all ages. Roberts continued to say he would support completely outlawing the care.
So my question is very simple. Are us trans folks still overreacting? Do you still have "reasonable concerns" about trans kids playing sports with their friends? Are you going to stand up for us, or continue to insist that it isn't your problem even as trans suicide rates and rates of violent attacks against trans people spike? Or are you going to get over your discomfort with people different than you and stand with us? The choice is yours, history is watching.
