I’ve got some screenshots of the new site for you!
Front page, Community menu:
As you can see, we’ve simplified the navigation significantly, while keeping the overall look and feel mostly the same. We are going to do a design refresh later this year, but for now, we’re keeping as much as possible the same to help ease the transition.
List view:
This is what you get when you click on the menu bar at the top and select any of the options under news or community. Comics will function a little differently—more on that later.
So, question for those who still use the old blog-style homepage: would this work for you? You don’t see the full story or image like now, but if what you want is a blog-style view of site content, does this do the trick? This page will be fully supported, work on all browsers and devices, and be maintained—things that wouldn’t happen with the unsupported version of the old homepage I’ve previously proposed.
The notifications widget:
There is a bell on the navigation bar, currently very tiny (you can see it in the first screenshot). We’re working on making it easier to find. But from there, you can access your stream, which will show any users or topics you follow and alert you when they post new content.
From Viafoura, which is powering our comments and notification tray: “The On-site Notification Tray is a personalized newsfeed for users to view all of the interactions the community has made with them … Replies to a user's comments, comment likes, new followers, and push notifications pertaining to topics the user has followed are all housed here.
Pretty cool, right? I am so freakin’ excited I can’t even, and I hope these glimpses help you understand where my excitement comes from. Not everything will be to everyone’s liking, but all the decisions we are making are intentional, with the goal of making this a more pleasant, accessible, and enjoyable experience for everyone.
Okay, enough for now. I have lots more screenshots, but I’ll save them for next week, when I’ll preview the publisher! It’s also pretty cool!
And as always, this is an incredibly expensive project, but one that will solidify our foundation for the next decade or longer. So please, if you can, donate to the effort!
