Two things happened this week that prompted this entry. One, I listened to Rubio’s remark in session on Venezuela and two the US sent 3 warships to the waters in the southern parts of Haiti.
It’s hard not to wonder if the US sits down and listens to itself sometimes. I watched bemused as Marco Rubio declared with his full chest that they had not only seized oil from Venezuela to sell to whom the US approves of, but they have taken the money from said sales and would give it back to the Venezuelan government when they submit a list of what they will do with their own money for approval by the US and if the US doesn’t approve they will not give them their own money.
Who do you think you are? The constant interference of the US, the heavy-handed way they have for decades interfered in the governments of the Caribbean and South America, is greatly responsible for the hate the US receives from those countries. The US is also grossly responsible for the state of those nations today.
The US does not own North America! It is not yours to order and command. You refuse to help these countries to advance, but every time they seek new alliances, you step in to interfere for “US Interests” give me one good reason why any country in North America should care about US Interests? When the US has done nothing to court these countries as allies? The only relationship the US has sought to establish with those countries is one of imperialism and control.
The US is not interested in the benefits of their own people let alone the Black and Brown folks of other North American countries. The US has done nothing but destabilize most countries they get involved with in this hemisphere. Keeping them in a constant state of instability and chaos. And then it turns around and calls them Sh*thole countries.
The US does not want Venezuela to sell oil to China and Russia (that’s their claim) does the US not sell goods to China and Russia? Does the US not have goods produced in China? Who the hell are you to control the financials of smaller countries for YOUR benefit? It’s not about Russia or China, we are not idiots, it’s about stopping these nations from growing on the international stage and perhaps one day rival the US.
It is the very same reason why every time Black folks start rising in prominence in the US, there’s “something” that happens to turn the public back against them or their achievements. Or stopping to stop their growth. The problem isn’t that Black folks or other minorities don’t integrate or assimilate are not “American enough” the problem is that those stopping them aren’t American enough.
While minorities focus on ideals, their rights, the constitution as the foundation of their citizenship, the rest focus on the flag, the guns, the mayflower as their foundation for their citizenry. It ain’t the same, it will never be the same. Symbols are not ideals, they only reflect ideals, that’s why they can be appropriated or change over time.
A symbol is colored/imbued by the beliefs of its followers, an ideal is sustained by the belief of its adherents. That is why the rainbow once revered by a certain group is now anathema to them because today it symbolizes the Pride of the LGBTQIA community. The symbol isn’t the thing.
