I love cartoons, especially political ones, which poke fun at the injustices and malfeasance of the powered elite as effectively as well worded expository essays. A powerful message is conveyed in just a few seconds of viewing time. On Daily Kos I am treated to a plethora of excellent cartoons in the diaries of Jeckllnhyde and in the comments section of Abbreviated Pundit Roundup.
The Lame Stream Media usually include in newspapers a few political cartoons in addition to the daily comics. Daily strips such as Doonesbury (which my local paper does not carry) lean heavily into political content, and several, such as Pearls Before Swine and Non Sequitur, touch political themes fairly often.
What intrigues me now is how that several strips with almost no history of political content have recently begun to pay attention to the outrageously bizarre behavior of what passes as our government. Stepping outside of their lane, strips such as Ziggy and Frank and Earnest have published strips with content that is unmistakably political. What pleasantly surprised me last weekend was that Wizard of Id has joined the ranks of nonpolitical cartoonists who have come together to say “Enough!”
I have placed below some of the cartoons that illustrate my point. I certainly haven’t found all of them, and I invite the readers to include more in the comments.
The insanity must end. It is like the American public is being waterboarded with projectile diarrhea.
