I’ve said here a few times over the past year that an effective way to stop the Trump administration from being able to implement their (mostly) illegal orders would be for most or all of the attorneys in the DOJ to simply quit.
It looks like that is indeed what is happening … though, in this case, the caveat is that this situation is delaying the DOJ and DHS from being able to comply with judges’ orders. I guess every coin has two sides, eh?
Still, if you read the article, you clearly get a sense that the Trump administration has essentially destroyed their own ability to litigate much of anything, besides maybe a few initial threats of “starting an investigation” and issuing subpoenas.
I’d be willing to bet money that the DOJ’s legal threats against Tim Walz and Jacob Frey will go nowhere, because they do not have enough staff willing or able to follow-through with the threats.
ICE Attorney: 'This job sucks'
The Brief
-
- An attorney with the Department of Justice said the federal government’s system for processing and responding to immigration cases "sucks" and is overwhelmed by a flood of judicial orders requiring ICE to immediately release immigrants who have been wrongfully detained during Operation Metro Surge.
- Julie Le assured a judge that DOJ attorneys are working around the clock to comply with orders, saying, "I wish you would just hold me in contempt of court so I can get 24 hours of sleep."
- Le, who previously worked as an ICE attorney in immigration court, volunteered to move to the U.S. Attorney's Office last month to help deal with a flood of habeas petitions from immigrants.
