Backed up with fancy graphics and 20 years in the TV weather business, Darren Beck, a meteorologist for the San Francisco Bay Area’s CBS News, gave us a detailed 9 ½-minute discussion Monday on the record-busting temperatures this week along with bad news on the snowpack in the California Sierras. He didn’t mention climate change. Or hint at it.
As we all know, weather isn’t climate. But surely a guy who can speed-talk faster than a Mexican radio advertiser could have spent 30 seconds or so of those minutes providing viewers information about what climate scientists say the reasons are for these extreme, killer weather events, and what they say about our future.
U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright says there is no climate crisis and scientists and others who say there is are “alarmists.” This attitude, of course, was to be expected from Wright and the other science rejectors Donald Trump has installed in his Cabinet and high posts throughout the federal government. Beck and others in his role across the nation relentlessly disinform their viewers by aligning themselves with this malicious nonsense.
