The fight to flip Mississippi’s U.S. Senate Seat is well underway. We put up billboards last year supporting Scott Colom and criticizing Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith. Ahead of the March primary election, we have mail pieces hitting homes and text messages landing in inboxes.
The idea of flipping Mississippi might seem outlandish. Over the last decade, however, statewide elections in Mississippi have gotten closer and closer. In the most recent gubernatorial election in 2023, incumbent Governor Tate Reeves received less than 51 percent of the vote. He was the worst-performing incumbent governor in the 2022-2023 cycle.
In the last year, we have seen massive swings towards Democrats in districts where Trump won by double digits.
These tailwinds could be the tipping point, especially since Trump’s declining popularity doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon.
One of our many billboards that we have had up since late last year.
We spent about $400,000 trying to defeat Tate Reeves in 2023 — and we’re prepared to spend even more to defeat Cindy Hyde-Smith and elect Scott Colom because we feel so bullish about our chances. But we need your help — we need more people like you joining and supporting our fight.
Winning this race will take early and frequent communications with voters.
Voters make up their minds early in an election — very early, in fact. Waiting to start a heavy advertising blitz until after Labor Day is too late. We will lose.
That’s why we started our work last year and we’re ramping up now.
Our strategy is simple: Bombard Republican voters with the brutal, honest truth about Cindy Hyde-Smith. Our polling shows that the more Republicans learn about her, the less willing they are to vote for her. At the same time, we need to build Colom’s name recognition. This is the first time he’s run for state-wide office, and not enough people know who he is. That is all the more reason why we need to start advertising now, and heavily.
One of the postcards we sent this winter.
We need your help to keep our momentum going and take the push for control of the Senate to every state.
Our promise to you is to be careful and nimble with your donations. We will run a highly targeted campaign, only talking with the voters whom we think we can persuade and must turn out to win. For example, we won’t be running advertisements during Ole Miss games where we’re paying a lot to talk to voters who we know we’ll never be able to persuade.
It’s up to us to build a South and a nation where the principles of justice and equity are a reality for all people. But we can’t do it without you. Donate to New Southern Majority today!
