Tom Sullivan has a great piece on the malfunctioning toilet system on the largest American aircraft carrier, the U.S.S. Gerald R. Ford. It’s bad enough that the sailors on the Ford have been on extended deployment for EIGHT MONTHS when the standard during peacetime is no more than six months. Besides missing out on funerals and other family issues, the sailors on the Ford have to deal with a poorly designed toilet system that routinely stops working and leads to overflows. We all know Trump doesn’t give a damn about loss American lives, but he’s more than happy for American sailors to spend time in their own shit for a war of choice.
Somehow, it seems so fitting that a ship named after President Ford would be fucking up so spectacularly. I do remember all the jokes about him being a klutz, and others would bemoan the fact that Ford really wasn’t uncoordinated. However, given that Ford pardoned Nixon simply because Nixon and he were friends, it’s only right that a ship named after Ford would spew out shit. Ford’s pardoning of Nixon is how we eventually ended up with Donald Trump.
On a more serious note, the sailors on the Ford, approximately 5,000 of them, have to wait in line at least 45 minutes to use one of the 650 malfunctioning toilets. This is because the crew has to constantly fix the stopped plumbing system and mop up the shit that overflows onto the floors. And it appears that the Ford will be at sea for 11 months before it goes back to port for service.
And guess what? All the time at sea on a shit strewn ship has an impact on MORAL. Word has gotten out that the younger sailors are threatening to quit when their tours of duty are up. Basically, the isolation from their families and the almost daily intake of shit has taken its toll.
And while Trump may not care, human excrement is also known for spreading disease. If you don’t believe it, ask any military before the advent of the germ theory about that. There is a long line of kings and military leaders who died of diarrheal diseases because of the spread of human waste into the local water supply.
I just wonder how many of these same sailors voted for Trump?
