Tonight the life of a good man and the hopes for real change in our Congress hang in the balance in an operating room in George Washington University Hospital.

Today we learned that a beautiful marine mammal the Baiji Dolphin, has met its final fate, never again to swim and frolic in the waters of planet Earth.

The genocide in Darfur rages uncontrolled, with no real action by anyone, except for a handful of aid workers who are barely coping.

The Iraq War is an unbelievable mess where 100,000s of people have died, and there seems to still be little recognition from on high that any real change is necessary.  So the mass civil killing which isn't a Civil War will continue unabated for months, years....

Palestinians and Israelis are farther away from a settlement now than ever, and regardless of who's right and who's wrong, and the killing and warfare goes on and on and on and on..........

I have worked as Director of an Overseas Aid Agency for 12 years only to see so much of our progress in Africa completely undone by AIDS and insufferable dictators who rip off their people. The Pacific Islands, normally calm and peaceful, are in turmoil from PNG to Solomons to Tonga to Fiji. Our Tonga office burned to the ground in November after 40 years of work. And sea level rise is literally taking them out  more and more each day.

Global Warming and the Arctic, well let's see there is "no real scientific proof of global warming.....We have to study it more....."  I guess there never will be any real proof until we are all 10 metres under the ocean and Denver is on the coast.

And on and on the list of stupidity, chaos and mess goes.  What year is it... oh right "2006", 5000 years after the great early civilizations.  What have we learned? Bigger and better toys, but no wisdom to go with them. Are we ever going to learn anything?

So sorry to everyone be such a drag, but I am damned tired right now and need to express my weariness.  After working my guts out as most of you have all your lives, to try to make this world a better place for people, for animals, for our environment, I am very very tired tonight.  Sometimes it feels we will never get anywhere.

But I will get up tomorrow, lift up my head and keep on fighting.  I am a Democrat and I care.  I am a Democrat and I will make this world a better place or die trying. And thanks to the Kos community for giving a weary warrior the support to battle on.  Thanks very much for listening.
