I got back from the anti-war demonstration at about 4:00pm yesterday. Some initial thoughts on it were that it was extremely impressive - far greater than the "tens of thousands" that's being reported; I'm more likely to estimate the crowd was closer to the half a million mark. There were also a lot of veterans which was a great thing to see. Finally, as you'll see by some of the photos, there were about 30 or so counter-protesters. To give you a sample of their general IQ, one proudly held up a sign saying "Hippies Smell." Genius. Nonetheless, they managed to rile up us protesters, getting us to shout appropriate phrases like "Go fight [in Iraq]," and "We want peace." Enjoy the pictures below the fold.

People on their way to the rally

Way too many

One of the best parts about rallies are the signs and get-ups that everyone has and wears

Simple, but really, enough is enough

There was a lot of talk of impeachment at the demonstration

Perhaps he's on to something

A quick shout-out to the White House from the Grim Reaper

"Tens of thousands" my ass

People young, old, and everyone in between were in attendance

It was great to see so many vets protesting Bush's despicable "new" plan

He's got a point

Definitely one of my favorite moments of the march. Staff from Senators' Leahy, Sanders, Feingold, and Murray were representing (I may be leaving out one or two others).

Took this one for all you Gore fans out there

There are poopers at every party

More poopers. We put them in their place when we started chanting "Go Fight [in Iraq]!" to them.

I don't know if I've ever been in a worse traffic jam

"Tens of thousands" my ass

A sea of people as far as the eye can see

How the heck did they get that to the mall?

Just in case there were any doubts that we didn't take over the entire area
