Are you angered by what has been happening in our Country over the last seven years?  I certainly am! President George Bush and the Republicans have simply been horrendous - stacking the Supreme Court, politicizing the Judicial branch, administration officials lying to Congress, appointments of arrogant cabinet members, and cutbacks on children’s healthcare and public education.  The list is endless, not to mention the War in Iraq, and the corruption of Blackwater and Halliburton: giving their friends billions, while our troops don’t have the protection they need or the healthcare they deserve. We’ve seen a loss of women’s rights, individual rights, environmental rights, and human rights.  Real people have been hurt by their arrogance.  

Unfortunately we can’t hold George Bush or Dick Cheney accountable at the polls because neither is running for public office again. But we can hold their Chief architect – the top Senate Republican, Mitch McConnell, accountable.  He has been the driving force (or major roadblock) in the US Senate.  Serving as the Whip, he made sure the Republican votes were there to help push the Bush Administration’s Agenda.  Now, he serves as the Minority Leader of the United States Senate and each day he continues to block not only Democrats, but the Country as a whole from making any progress.  Mitch is running for re-election next year, and we can’t let him get away with this. That is why I have formed the Stumbo 2008 Exploratory Committee.  

A little bit about myself: I am Greg Stumbo, Kentucky’s Attorney General. A life-long Democrat, I was first elected in 1980 to the House of Representatives.  In 3 short years I was elected by my peers to the position of House Majority Floor Leader – the youngest in history - because they knew I would stand strong for Democratic values and principles.  In 2003, after 24 years in the state House of Representatives, 19 as Majority Floor Leader, I was elected Attorney General - in a year when the Democrats lost half of the statewide offices for the first time in over 30 years.  I have devoted most of my adult life to public service, and through the years I have been a strong advocate for working men and women, education, consumers, the environment and protecting the Constitution of the United States.

President Bush and Vice President Cheney are moving home, and so should their number-one waterboy, Mitch McConnell.  I am exploring this new challenge because I believe we must do something to change the direction in which this country is heading, and we can no longer stand idly by and watch him run over the Constitution with complete disregard for the consequences.
