Announcer: He worked his way through college and Harvard Law.
Turned down big money offers, and helped lift neighborhoods stung by job loss. Fought for workers’ rights.
He passed a law to move people from welfare to work, slashed the rolls by eighty percent. Passed tax cuts for workers; health care for kids.
As president, he’ll end tax breaks for companies that export jobs, reward those that create jobs in America.
And never forget the dignity that comes from work.
Several Thoughts: This ad puts Obama right in the sweet spot for Working Class workers, discussing several concrete things that he's accomplished in Illinois and the Senate to create jobs, cut taxes, and reduce Welfare rolls.
Also, the ad shows Obama in a good light, interacting with several groups of workers, most if not all are white in the ad.
Finally, I think the ad does some interesting work, starting with younger looking obama and progressing to an older looking Obama of today, showing some maturing and growth.
Several things accomplished include addressing experience, accomplishment, relating to workers, and speaking to issues to aid workers in finding jobs and improving their lives.
On balance, a very solid ad. The only ciritism I could see is if others would misinterpret the light moment at the end with the lunch ladies and Obama. Look for Ann Coulter to wonder outloud why Obama is grabbing the woman who he's actually hugging and embracing in a warm human way that shows an affection and comfort level that Obama uniquely possesses with working class people.
UPDATE: According to The Page the ad will begin airing Monday in the 18 states that are currently airing the 1st commercial of the campaign.
The ad will air in Alaska, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Virginia.
This amount of airtime does not come cheap. And one can argue that the polls have started to move as the Advertising has saturated the airwaves. Hard to tell the exact cause, but Gallup is showing real motion the last several days.
Today is June 30th as you well know, and there is certainly a need to keep Barack Obama well funded into the fall. As Jed points out, the GOP is currently out-fundraising Barack Obama by a significant margin.
This means that Barack is depending upon us to step up to the plate to fund his campaign publically. I hope you join me in making a few modest donations to secure the following campaign merchandise... it's not often you get free stuff for donating, and at the end of the quarter, that's certainly the case until Midnight Tonight
