I will be trying to use the update or reply features to keep people posted tonight. We worked the polls today for the Greens in North Sydney.
Tasmanian polls closed first an hour ago.
Labor holds all five seats in Tasmania and current predictions shows them losing Braddon and in a dogfight in Bass in the states northern timber country. The Greens and the Conservatives are both picking up support at Labor's expense. If Labor loses these two seats, it will be tough on them regaining them elsewhere.
This almost certainly gives the Greens a new Senate seat with Christine Milne who is a world-class environmentalist and will make a huge impact on the Senate with fellow Greens Leader Bob Brown.
Running Updates in Extended Entry:
TASMANIA: Braddon falls to Conservatives (Howard's Party) from Labor (Latham's Party). Swing largely based on Forest Issues. Bass is now a toss-up. Greens continue to show swings in their favour in all seats.
TASMANIA: In the Senate race the swing to the Greens is 2.7 giving them 1.2 quotes which is 1 Senate seat for Christine Milne. Conservatives have 3.5 quotes which translates into 4 likely seats and Labor 1.9 quotas which translates into 2 seats.
So Greens 1, Conservatives 4 and Labor 2. Great news for the Greens, they now for the first time in history will have 2 Green Senators from Tasmania and what two great people Bob Brown and Christine Milne!!!!. YEAHHHH!!
TASMANIA: Bass falls to Conservatives (Howard's Party) from Labor (Latham's Party). Spells bad news for Labor in House.
NATIONALLY: Conservatives look to retain control of House and Government. Look to pick up the seat of Rankin in Queensland, but look likely to lose seat of Parramatta in NSW to Labor, but Labor not gaining enough yet to oust Conservatives nationally.
NSW: Labor picks up the Syndey Suburban seat of Parramatta, but still not looking good nationally, but at least one new seat in NSW.
