I think we all tried to stay away from the "confused" meme out of respect for the process and because nobody wants to discriminate on the basis of age. However, when evidence keeps hitting us in the brain, we eventually have to conclude that the defendant is guilty. Moreover, and this is the scary part, nobody in the McCain camp either has the authority, or the guts, to stop the Senator. Lets look at some of the evidence from just the last day or so:
1. MCCAIN IGNORANTLY INSULTS SPAIN, SPANIARDS AND SANE PEOPLE EVERYWHERE
That John McCain can make a mistake about who an interviewer is talking about is acceptable. The recourse, of course, is to ask the interviewer to please restate the question. Not only will John McCain not admit to a mistake, he will confusingly continue answering the misinterpreted question for another two minutes. Based upon this audio link, nobody from the McCain camp was around to correct him. Moreover, the McCain camp later attempted to "cover up" the incident, showing even more disrespect for Spain and for American voters. Based upon his statements only, McCain apparently sees this in his mind's eye:

2. MCCAIN TO FIRE SEC CHAIRMAN (PENDING CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT)
Today, John McCain announced that he is going to fire the SEC Chairman as soon as he becomes President. The only problem is -- he can't. Are there any aides vetting McCain's speeches? Is there anyone watching the store? Will he let even one person tell him if an idea's dumb? Here's the report from ABC:
"The regulators were asleep, my friends," McCain said. "The chairman of the SEC serves at the appointment of the president. And in my view has betrayed the public trust. If I were president today, I would fire him."
"But while the president nominates and the Senate confirms the SEC chair, a commissioner of an independent regulatory commission cannot be removed by the president."
What went unreported by ABC is that John McCain also has plans to fire the following individuals responsible for the current economic conditions, again pending ratification of a constitutional amendment granting to him the power to do so:
"The Hedge Fund Gnomes"
"The Oil Speculation Fairy"
"Zadrak, King of Mortgage Trolls"
3. MCCAIN SAID THAT THE ECONOMY WAS "FUNDAMENTALLY" SOUND
When does out of touch become confused? Does it take 6.1% unemployment, Bear Stearns, the loss of jobs overseas, Lehman Brothers, AIG, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, markets around the world plunging, Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, the collapse of real estate prices, Washington Mutual AND SOMETHING ELSE? Yes, Senator McCain, the economy is fundamentally sound like Milli Vanilli was fundamentally soundless:
