"Happy Tra.a.ails to you..."

I'm going to venture a prediction, surely a risky thing to do in this chaotic McDrama. I predict that by Monday, Rick Davis will be riding off into the sunset and the McDrama troupe will have a new director. The "suspension" will turn out to have been a shake-up, and McDiva will get yet another costume change, this one as tacky as an Arkansas Baptist preacher at a political convention.

Rick Davis is now a toxic asset. New information comes out daily about his hefty paychecks from both sides of the isle (as in private offshore safe-haven), where he is paid by Fred and Fannie McMae for access to Grandpa McPalin, and paid by McGrumpy in turn for his exemplary skill as a campaign manager.

Now THIS:

Just hours after Sen. John McCain made a surprise announcement Wednesday that he was temporarily suspending his presidential campaign to help work out a bipartisan deal in Congress on the financial crisis, his campaign manager Rick Davis dined with about a dozen top New York-based fundraisers at the chic 21 Club in Manhattan.

And THIS:

WASHINGTON--John McCain campaign manager Rick Davis--under the spotlight because of his work for mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac--is skipping a Wednesday lunch with reporters sponsored by the Christian Science Monitor.

On Tuesday, word came that McCain political director Mike DuHaime will substitute for Davis because he is "heading out on the trail" today.

Davis is the subject of stories in the New York Times and Newsweek about his work for the failed mortgage market makers. At issue right now: did Davis contradict McCain's statement that he has not been involved with Fannie and Freddie for some time.

My first thought when I heard about the McDelay was cover for Rick Davis' ignoble exit. I hope I'm right.
