With the story of Hank Williams, Jr's butchering his song "Family Tradition" for the Unstable-Unable ticket, it made me think of something my ears have picked up on recently.

After 9/11 and during the run-up to the Iraq War, there was a glut of new flag-waving patriotic songs. During 2003, 2004 and I'd say through 2005 songs that played to bumper-sticker patriotism like "Have You Forgotten?", "Where the Stars and Stripes (and the Eagle Fly)", and of course Toby Keith's insipid "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue" were in fairly heavy and regular rotation on country radio. *Ugh - and don't even get me started on the gag-inducing Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the U.S.A.".
However, as the war dragged on and public opinion soured over the past two years to so I hadn't been hearing these songs much; that is until the past couple of months.
Has anyone else picked up on this?
