When Susan Eisenhower voiced her endorsement of Barack Obama way back in February, it began to seem obvious that the campaign was in a very good place.
When Susan Eisenhower voiced her endorsement of Barack Obama way back in February, it began to seem obvious that the campaign was in a very good place.
Some of what she had to say in her Washpo article
I am not alone in worrying that my generation will fail to do what my grandfather's did so well: Leave America a better, stronger place than the one it found.
...snip...
We have been living in a zero-sum political environment where all heads have been lowered to avert being lopped off by angry, noisy extremists. I am convinced that Barack Obama is the one presidential candidate today who can encourage ordinary Americans to stand straight again
.
Well, today, in Huffpo, another granddaughter of a Republican icon has declared:
CC Goldwater of Barry and Arizona fame had some surprising things to say, not the least of which is that her grandmother was one of the founders of AZ Planned Parenthood!
Myself, along with my siblings and a few cousins, will not be supporting the Republican presidential candidates this year.
...snip...
the Republican brand has been tarnished in a shameless effort to gain votes and appeal to the lowest emotion, fear. Nothing about McCain, except for maybe a uniform, compares to the same ideology of what Goldwater stood for as a politician.
And here's the money quote. These iconic republicans aren't just saying they'll quietly vote for Senator Obama:
Nothing about the Republican ticket offers the hope America needs to regain it's standing in the world, that's why we're going to support Barack Obama. I think that Obama has shown his ability and integrity.
After the last eight years, there's a lot of clean up do. Roll up your sleeves, Senators Obama and Biden, and we Goldwaters will roll ours up with you.
They are putting the full force of their names, and promising their efforts to rebuild America.
Thank you CC for really putting "Country First".
