Do Republicans think that they could actually lose a seat in Texas? Kay Bailey Hutchison is having second thoughts about giving up her seat in the Senate.

I can't think of a more interesting race than to watch the "ex-cheerleader Bushbot" and the "perfect hair" Gov. Rick Perry pull each others perfectly "coiffed hair" out in a contested primary....

Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas) is reconsidering a plan to resign from the Senate this year, a huge relief to Republicans who fear that a special election — even in deeply red Texas — could give Democrats a 60-seat, filibuster-resistant majority in the Senate.

Hutchison, who plans to run for governor in 2010, has been under pressure from Republican colleagues to stay in her Senate seat as long as she can.

“She’s a great lady, and I don’t blame her if she wants to run for governor, but the fact is we’d like her not to,” said Sen. Orrin G. Hatch (R-Utah). “We’d like her to stay right here.”

Added a senior GOP aide: “I cannot imagine that … Sen. Hutchison would abandon her seat to pursue her own ambitions and even risk giving Democrats a supermajority in the Senate.”

Kay Bailey Hutchison has been nothing less than a Bushbot for the last 8 years of the Bush "error". I'd love to see her retire from the Senate and return to Texas to depose that other two faced self righteous, hypocritical, walking commercial for Clairol, Rick Perry. Obviously, the Republicans, headed by NRSC chairman John Cornyn are very nervous about losing this seat, thus giving Democrats the magic 60.

What I remember and dislike most about Hutchison is her blatant hypocrisy. A blast from the past....during the Clinton impeachment circus, how Hutchinson appeared on "Meet The Press" and made the point that "perjury is perjury, no matter what." Move ahead about 8 years, when Scooter Libby had been convicted for perjury, she appeared on "Meet The Press" again and said Libby should not be punished for "a perjury technicality." You have to admire that kind of moral hypocrisy, if a Democrat does something, it's wrong no matter what, but if a Republican does it they should be given a break. On its own, a dis-qualifier for office, but if Texans want Hutchison as their Governor, fine with me as long as they remove her from the Senate where her hypocrisy and moronic decisions affect me and every other American.

TPM Election Central:

One Texas Republican source seemed surprisingly concerned, telling Election Central that the state Dems are "going through a bit of a renaissance," and have two decent candidates lined up for the eventual Senate race in Houston Mayor Bill White and former Comptroller John Sharp.

"If Sharp and Bill White come back, there will be national Democratic Party money put back in Texas, and I think Republicans are gonna have to be on their A-game," the source said. "And that's something we will always fight to achieve, but gone are the days when Democrats would put up sort of B-team officials."

Dallas county local elections in 2006 gave every single county office, from judge to dogcatcher, to the Dems. Houston is very close to repeating a similar situation.

Hispanics in TX are sick of GOP immigrant-bashing, among other things, and they are a rapidly-growing minority that will eventually take the majority in the state.
