For the most part, this system works !  It is an absolute myth that you cannot choose your doctor because my husband has chosen his and changed his more than once. AT THE VA.  He has an absolute say over his healthcare and he does appreciate his single
payer healthcare.  

Do the people getting medicare and or VA healthcare  who are opposed to the public option ready to say, Oh it is so bad that we feel only we derserve socialized medicine.  I really wonder and I do ask these questions when I hear
opposition to healthcare for everyone.

If the extreme right, are you listening Mrs You Betcha Palin, think that single payer is so terrible then why do they support VA Healthcare?
If it is sooooo bad, why are the veterans receiving this care?  Let them answer that question.  They can't because it is not that bad.
Does it have problems?  Yes but not nearly as many as regular healthcare.

The Bush administration tried to lock veterans out of the healthcare system with the priority 8 nonsense.
Why is that not brought up more.  I called Washington and asked for a PSA to go out to let
people know, especially older vets like Korean and WWII, that the Obama administration overturned the Bush policy of priority 8's threshold of money matters and now more than a million veterans who thought they were locked out of healthcare can receive it.

A Korean vet called me last week with cancer and told me that he and his wife made 30,000 and he could not be seen at the VA.  I made two phone calls and that nonsense was cleared up quickly.
That was true before June 2009 but the news media is not telling anyone that people the republicans turned away in the past 8 years does not apply anymore regarding enrollment of the VA healthcare system.

The state veterans service was not even aware of this.  The PSA needs to go out far and wide and
get some of these older folks this healthcare.  We know many are not computer savy and if Fox doesn't report it correctly, which would be a miracle and the other media sources are ignorning it, then people who could be getting care aren't.  They just don't know any better.
Many of these people don't follow all the good that this administration is doing and it is extremely bad PR for the President when the so called moderates and independents who maybe voted for this kind of change has no idea, it has come already.

This VA single payer system works very well.
The VA provides advocates to assist the veteran with problems they may have with transportation,
claims, meds, changing doctors, specialists, appointments, surgery, and teams not just a doc.
They get platinum teams, gold, bronze,purple,green, red and silver.  They have a primary care physican.  They have a mental health team, dieticians, vision,dental and prostethics as well.  They can walk in and yes they may wait all day and then again they may not wait over an hour.  They have a full ER that is open 24/7.  Veteran Trasportation and Valet service along with canteens and  PX dept.stores.
Not a gift shop with an overpriced teddy bear in the window.  We are talking big screens in the PX with no tax applied at purchase.  This is in the hospital.  So the next time one of the wingers start complaining...start pointing out just how well this system works.

Yes, there are many more improvements that can be made but this vet's family has no complaints.
Well, at least none we haven't been able to resolve.

A little Breaking news over the TV wouldn't hurt either.  Something like "Hey Veteran, you qualify for healthcare that you didn't for the last 8 years."  Thank you for that single payer system and that Democratic president and congress because 1 million got left out last time some of these folks checked and they didn't bother to check back or they died or went broke.
