Recently in the noble city of Washington, D.C., a group of democratic legislators met to vote on the Obama proposal to compromise with republicans on the issue of tax cuts. It is reported that a chant was overheard coming from the room where the leglislators met of "Just say no." In one instance the words "f@&# the president" was uttered by a nameless 'democratic leglislator'

I have been a democrat for over 40 years. Throughout that time, as a democrat, I have never voted anything else other than democrat, nor have I in that tenured time witnessed such direspect of any president as I have witnessed with what is occurring with President Obama. I think the  elephant in the room, or horse in the bedroom really is Mr. Obama's greatest problem is that he is attempting to be president while being black. He is literally in a no win situation. The right attacks him for being a muslim, a Kenyan, a racist, and a liberal who should only serve one term.

From our own ranks starting at the beginning of his first term in what has been the  passsage of most historic leglisation in the past 100 years, he was reviled on this website for "settling". I was attentive during the Clinton administration when the Lewinsky fiasco occurred with President Bill Clinton. Nothing resembling what I am seeing with the way President Obama is being treated ever occurred because of President Clinton's failures. For the most part, democrats supported him wholeheartedly, and if they didn't they were silent. President Clinton, for the most part ignored the liberal left after failing to attain health care and caving in to republicans in the GLBT fight that led to "Don't Ask Don't Tell" which President Obama is vehemently  trying to undo. President Bill Clinton also gave away the store in his support of NAFTA, but there was no hew and cry from the left at that time. Policies, btw that a democratic president endorsed.

The namecalling and undignified behavior in oppostion of this good man leves me exasperated. I will not continue in a party that cannot get its act together, that is splintered, and obviously is begiining to inherit the wind because it fails to see the big picture of getting things done. Liberals can't antogonize the people that are fighting for them. Instead of turning the guns on the republicans (mostly white men), the black guy is being attacked in every venue except the black and latino communities. That ought to tell Americans something.

I was totally aghast when I heard of the f--- the president comment. I have reconciled  supporting president Obama as I did every other democratic president withoug being hostile when I didn't absolutely get what I thought would be in the best interest of the country. I wanted the public option as an inclusion in the health care law. My sister couldn't get health care while she was alive. It was personal with me. However, there are two parties in our government. They, too, fight for their constituencies. Their constituencies fight for them as we witnessed with the tandem fight the tea party waged on behalf of republicans. Where is that same pugilistic fire on the democratic side? I don't think the rich and very rich should receive tax cuts either. However, I want the unemployed to get taken care of. Liberals want President Obama to do all the fighting. When are liberals going to fight for what we beleive. Yes, I am indeed a liberal. I am also black.

I understand the president's dilemma because I'll never forget the days I couldn't enter lunch counters or restrooms and I had to go to the back door of whites. Much has changed since then, but it has happened gradually. I live in the south and every election season, republicans are victorious, no matter how disreputable the candidates are. This is the backdrop and legacy from which President Obama operates.

If we destroy this good man, we will deserve to inherit the wind. Let's not let him fail.
