My husband received transportation entitlement for a scheduled appointment and they paid him 1.67 for a 20 mile round trip gas mileage (our car). Where is the VA buying gas and what to they think 1.67 buys and by what means transport. Talk about waste ...The 42 cents for the check..the ink and print on the Treasury check and the 1.67 ...Now that is what I call waste.
How much would we save if the VA quit that 1.67 cent nonsense for travel pay for 20 miles round trip?
By Golly, make it worhwhile or quit giving it. That whole process costs the taxpayer about 20.00 or more. All for 1.67. Probably more. The check..paper check. The mailing costs. The actual 1.67. The envelope...the different mail carriers and post office handling. Come on...it's not rocket science. it's fuzzy math and it's waste.
Now let us get to the prescriptions they mail out and the long long long pieces of paper with every script describing side effect, mail back stickers and something that just goes in the garbage because people call in their meds or use their bottles. I know of no veteran that returns that sticker, but that would be acceptable. All of that info on the paper and it's side effects each and every month is wasteful. There are pharmacies everywhere who will look up the medication and there are libraries with internets. There is a phone at the pharmacy at the VA for Lord's sake. Then we have
doubled appointment scheduling on paper via mail sent everytime there is an appointment. I understand reminders.
The three phone calls from the Va is one thing but the second or third letter reminding you of an appointment is waste. Now on every single bottle of prescription medication, there is a toll free number to phone in your meds so you got the paper and the phone number. Both have your refill numbers on it. They are spending countless dollars for things that aren't worth it or could trim the fat or monies that could actually help the veteran. 1.67 is gonna piss em off not help.
When gas is 4.00 bucks a gallon and a car gets only 19 or twenty miles to a gallon then what is that 1.67 gonna do for ya? If you go twenty three miles, they still owe you money. Maybe the inspector general needs to find out who is getting the other 5.00. This would add up if you see 30,000 vets in a month and even 20,000 got gas mileage reimbursement. The caretakers and the vet is not getting it and it is costing the taxpayer a chunk of change. It has been this way for years and years and years. I can think of so much waste in the VA system it isn't even funny and could actually go to help a vet rather than whatever it is doing.
I know in Atlanta some folks bought some airplanes and helicopters with money intended for the Vet.
Isn't that called Theft and Abuse. http://www.vawatchdog.org/...
Wake Up Veterans Affairs. Some trimming can be done with the waste of paper nonsense.
